CAUTION: The UV-C system must not be connected to the power/
mains supply, or it must be immediately disconnected, respec-
tively, if moisture traces are detected in the UV-C lamp or in the
quartz glass cylinder. Check all parts for possible damage in this
case (see section "Cleaning"). Consult your specialty retailer if you
cannot detect or correct the problem.
Testing the UV-C lamp
Attention! Be sure to wear UV-C protection glasses.
Switch on the UV-C system for checking whether the UV-C lamp of
the sera pond UV-C System is working. A dim bluish light can be
seen through the viewing glass in the lid (3.2) when the lamp is on.
Avoid looking into the UV-C light for a longer time.
Cleaning
Disconnect all electrical devices from the power/mains supply by
pulling their plugs.
Remove the entire sera pond UV-C System 55 W from the sera KOI
Professional
®
24000 Pond Filter. Loosen the screws of the fixing
bracket (3.16 a). Take the UV-C lamp out of the bracket. Loosen the
large union nut (3.15) on the side of the unit that holds the power
cord. You can pull the quartz glass cylinder (3.11) along with the
lamp out of the casing on the side that holds the power cord. Cau-
tion! The glass parts are easily broken.
Clean the quartz glass cylinder with a soft cloth. Check whether the
lamp has cracks or similar damages after you have cleaned the
quartz glass cylinder. Do not switch on the lamp for doing so.
Please see the section "Maintenance/Replacing the lamp" in case
the lamp is not intact any more.
Now clean the plastic casing on the inside. Use a long-handle brush
to do so.
You can use a neutral, solvent-free cleaning agent for cleaning.
Cleaning agents are very dangerous to many aquatic organisms
and must not get into the pond water! All cleaned parts must be
rinsed carefully before they come into contact with pond water
again.
Maintenance/Replacing the lamp
The UV-C lamp should be replaced after approx. one year. Discon-
nect all electrical parts and units in the pond from the mains sup-
ply before opening the casing of the UV-C lamp!
There are sensitive glass parts inside the UV-C system that may eas-
ily break when handled inappropriately. Pour the water out of the
UV-C system.
Loosen the union nut (3.15) on the side of the unit that holds the
power cord.
Caution! The UV-C lamp (3.13) is approx. 50 cm (20 in.) long and di-
rectly connected to the lid. It can easily break in case of abrupt
movements. You can pull out the lamp only after clicking it out of
its fixture (3.14). Pull out the lid along with the lamp to do so. Gen-
tly pull out the lamp once you can get hold of the lamp and the cas-
ing separately. Do not let go of the lamp!
Fold the fixture to the side and carefully pull out the lamp entirely.
The lamp end is equipped with a bracket (3.7) that ensures correct
positioning inside the quartz glass tube.
This bracket must by all means be attached to the new lamp.
An electronic ballast (3.16 b) with electronic starter is located in the
casing of the UV-C lamp. The ballast may only be replaced by spe-
cialized staff.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• The special sera UV-C lamp may be operated only inside the sera
pond UV-C System after it has been completely assembled ac-
cording to these directions for use. Every other use may lead to
skin and eye damage!
• Maximum pressure 0.4 bar (5.8 psi.).
• Always keep UV-C units and UV-C lamps out of the reach of chil-
dren!
• All electrical units in and around the pond must be disconnected
from the power/mains supply before conducting work at/in the
pond and on the sera pond UV-C System.
• Operate unit only with a fault current protection switch (RCD
30 mA).

• Do not operate if unit is submerged!
• Never operate the UV-C system without water flow. Connect the
sera KOI Professional
®
24000 Pond Filter to a pump as described
in the instructions for use.
• Ensure that there is sufficient water flow through the sera pond
UV-C System before switching on the UV-C lamp. A minimum
flow rate must be ensured also during operation.
• Usage in or at swimming pools, walk-in ponds or swimming
ponds is not permitted!
• At the first sign of frost, disconnect and drain the sera pond UV-
C System, and store in a frost-free location (without water or
water remainders). We recommend thoroughly cleaning and
lubricating all sealing rings before winter storage.
• Too frequent "ON/OFF" switching reduces the life expectancy of
the UV-C lamp.
• Ensure that the electrical plug of the switched-on unit is freely
accessible at all times.
