5.1 Preparing for socket fabrication

INFORMATION
The Dynamic Vacuum System can be used with a total surface weight-
bearing socket or a specific weight-bearing socket. Observe the following
instructions:
► Mould the residual limb length with liner unchanged while taking the
plaster cast.
► Do not shorten the plaster model during modelling.
Required materials: piston dummy, silicone dummy, short or long valve
>
dummy, 99B25 nylon stockinette, 99B81=70X19X5 PVA bag, string,
633W8 wax, 636K8* Plastaband
1) Distally flatten the plaster model so that the piston dummy can be posi
tioned in the longitudinal residual limb axis (see fig. 2). Position the pis
ton dummy on the plaster model and loosely secure it with a plaster
screw.
2) Pull a nylon stockinette over the plaster model.
3) Tie off the nylon stockinette between the piston dummy and plaster mod
el and trim off the excess nylon stockinette (see fig. 3).
4) Turn the plaster screw all the way in (see fig. 4).
