Leak tests

Perform the leak test with a suitable test unit (e.g. from the Testor or
Quaestor series).
NOTICE
i
i
When testing size L or S facepieces, apply the mask
particularly carefully to size M test heads, since the face seal
sometimes does not seal optimally. Moistening the face seal
facilitates exact donning, since the mask can slide onto the
test head more easily.
(1) Checking leak tightness
1. Moisten the face seal and exhalation valve with water.
2. Mount the facepiece on the test head, if necessary use the
corresponding mount for mask/helmet combinations.
3. Make sure that the face seal fits tightly onto all parts of the test
head. Inflate the test head, if necessary.
4. Seal the connector with the adapter and produce a negative
pressure of 10 mbar.
The facepiece is considered leak-tight if the pressure drop is less than
1 mbar/min. If the facepiece is leaking, continue with (2).
(2) Test with sealed exhalation valve
1. Remove the exhalation valve disc.
2. Insert the exhalation valve test plug.
3. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
4. If the pressure drop is less than 1 mbar/min, remove the
exhalation valve test plug and insert a new valve disc.
5. Repeat the leak test (1). If the facepiece is leaking, continue with (3).

(3) Leak test under water
1. Immerse the test head including the facepiece with exhalation
valve test plug in water.
2. Produce an overpressure of approx. 10 mbar.
3. Slowly turn the test head under the water surface. Emerging air
bubbles indicate leaks.
4. Take the test head with the facepiece out of the water, repair the
facepiece, replace leaking components.
5. Remove the exhalation valve test plug.
6. Install the exhalation valve disc.
7. Repeat the leak test (1).
Checking the opening pressure of the exhalation valve
The opening pressure must be at least 4.2 mbar at a constant
flow of 10 L/min. If this opening pressure is not achieved, turn
PE
the valve disc to remove dust particles or similar between the
ESA
crater and the valve disc. Repeat the test. If the opening
P
pressure is still not achieved, replace the spring (Figure A3-
27 on Page 3) and repeat the test.
After testing
1. Disconnect the adapter.
2. Remove the facepiece from the test head and dry it, if necessary.
3. Fit the exhalation valve cover so that it clicks into place.
