When calculating the fall clearance, factor in manufacturer
information relating to the impact of movement on the mobile
elevating work platform during a fall arrest + a minimum of 0.35 m
below the railing to take account of the anchor point
+1.9 m beneath the railing (cf. fig. 3)
+ Height of user (cf. x, fig. 3)
+ Safety margin (approx. 1 m, cf. fig. 3)
5.) Suitability for use with edges
In accordance with the guiding principles for fall protection
equipment used in the baskets of mobile elevating work platforms,
the HSG Compact was edge tested twice (table on page 8, line 6).
It was also tested with a steel bar (radius r = 0.5 mm without burrs)
for horizontal applications and a resulting fall over the edge. On the
basis of this test, the HSG Compact is suitable for use on similar
edges (table on page 8, line 5). Regardless of this test, the following
must be considered when using in a horizontal or diagonal position
where there is a risk of falling off an edge.
1. If the risk analysis, conducted before work begins, shows that
the fall edge is particularly 'sharp' (r < 0.5 mm) and/or is 'not free
of drill holes', the risk of falling over the edge must be eliminated
or edge protection must be installed. (table on page 8, line 7)
2. The HSG Compact anchor point must not be below the level of
where the user is standing.
3. T he angle of the edge must be at least 90°.
4. To prevent a pendulum fall, the work area and sideways
movement from the central axis must, in all circumstances, be
limited to 1.50m. In any other case, mobile anchor points must
not be used but instead a cable or track system for fall protection.
