MAKING DOWEL AND SCREW JOINTS ON A FLAT SURFACE
AA
Drilling screw holes in a surface
The procedure and the division of the work pieces are the same as for making a dowel joint in a
surface. Use a 7mm diameter drill bit for through holes. Set drilling depth so that the drill bit can drill
through the entire thickness without difficulty.
Ensure the drill rotates in the correct direction – these are right-hand bits.
NB: To make dowel or screw joints in the edge, it is advisable to use the CMT400 or CMT656
drilling template.
Making a joint with larger dimensions than the drilling template
The procedure is illustrated in figure (Fig. 7).
Once the edge stop is removed (pos. 2), the template can be moved along the work piece edge.
The centring pin is used to hold the last hole and keep the 32mm spacing (pos. 3/4/5). The drilling
template is supplied with centering pins for 8mm, 5mm and 3mm dowel diameters. The procedure
is the same as for surface drilling; the only difference is that the centering pin is replaced by the
front stop. To position the template aligned with previously drilled holes, use the two centering pins
located as far apart as possible.

WARNING!!!
While drilling, press the adaptor chuck against the template to ensure vertical holes. The drilling
bush can be supported with the other hand. Always keep the drill in a vertical position so that
the drilling bush touches the CMT900 with its entire surface. It is advisable to drill holes
gradually and always follow safety instructions for drilling work!
