• The thermometer emits 10 alarm tones when the measured
temperature is higher than 37 .5°C (99 .5°F): This indicates that
the person whose temperature has been measured may be
suffering from fever . Wait at least 30 seconds between any
two measurements if you wish to carry out 3 to 5 measure-
ments so as to increase the accuracy of the measurements .
• A collection of cerumen („ear wax") on the measuring tip of
the thermometer can quickly lead to a wrong measurement
or a cross-infection among those being examined . It is
therefore essential that the measuring tip is cleaned before
the next measurement is carried out . For more information,
please see „Cleaning and Maintenance".
• Wait at least 5 minutes before taking the next temperature
when the measuring tip has been cleaned with alcohol . This
gives the thermometer enough time to once again attain the
reference value .
• The following method has proved to be especially successful
when measuring the temperature of small children . Place the
child on its back and turn the child's head gently to one side
so that the ear is facing upwards .
• When measuring the temperature of children or adults, we
recommend that the temperature is taken from an angle
behind the person's ear .
• Always measure the temperature at the same ear . There are someti-
mes temperature differences between the right ear and the left ear .

• Please wait several minutes before taking the temperature of
a person who has just fallen asleep .
• We recommend that you carry out three measurements
in the following situations before selecting the highest value:
• Newly-born babies during the first 100 days
• Infants under 3 years with a compromised immune system
when the onset of fever is critical
• When the thermometer is being used for the first time and the
person using it is unsure how it works and therefore needs to
familiarize him or herself with it first .
8. Changing the Units of Temperature
Your digital ear thermometer can display temperatures both
in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit . To change from Celsius to
Fahrenheit , simply power off the thermometer and press and
hold the start key for 5 seconds . The selected temperature unit
blinks on the display when the key is released . Press the start
key again while the units are blinking to change from Celsius
to Fahrenheit or vice versa . Wait another 5 seconds after the
new units are displayed . The thermometer then automatically
adjusts the temperature scale to the new units .
