Connecting the trailer control module
15. Plug the 12-pin plug and the 18-pin plug into the trailer control module.
16. Position the trailer control module on the left side panel near the wheel housing (fig. 1/4, 2/4)
and secure it there with the aid of some Velcro tape.
17. Insert the supplied miniature relay (Fig. 1/5, Fig. 2/5) into the relay socket. Secure the relay
socket on the cable harness using cable ties.
Connecting the power supply
Power is picked up directly from the front fuse box.
18. Lay the red/blue cable along the vehicle's cable harness to the fuse box (Fig. 1/1, Fig. 9/1).
19. Let the quick-connect receptacle of the red/blue cable of the cable harness and the one of the
enclosed single red cable with the black connector lock into place in the fuse holder
(Fig. 10/2).
20. Take the black plug out of slot ("B") of the fuse box (Fig. 1/2) and connect it to its matching
counterpart on the cable harness. Plug the 2-pole plug-in connector of the cable harness back
into slot ("B"). Make sure that the plugs lock firmly into place.
21. Insert fuse (Fig. 10).
22. Fasten the plug-in connectors below the fuse box in a suitable manner.
Note
Ensure sufficient strain relief and correct installation of the fuse holder and of the plug-in
connectors.
Special information concerning vehicles with parking distance control (PDC)
On vehicles with PDC it is possible to deactivate the PDC for trailer operation.
23. Insert the brown/white cable (Fig. 1/3) of the cable harness under the back seat bench into
the clamp and lay it to the PDC control unit at the front pillar on the right. Open the 8-pin
connector (Fig. 1/3) and connect the brown/white cable to pin 6 (Fig. 8).
Checking the correct operation
24. Reconnect the ground of the vehicle's battery.
25. Check the trailer function with the help of a suitable test instrument (with load resistors) or
with the help of a trailer.
26. Secure all cables using cable ties or adhesive tape.
27. Reattach any parts removed for installation.
