1. General information

Please read these operating instructions carefully before going to work with the safe encoder,
mounting it or commissioning it. These operating instructions guide the technical staff of the machine
manufacturer or of the machine user for safe assembly, electrical installation, commissioning, and for
operating the safe encoder. In addition, the planning and operation of protection devices such as the
safe encoder require technical competence that is not the subject of this document.
On principle, the legal and official requirements are to be adhered to when operating the safe encoder.

1.1 Targeted personnel

The safe encoder may only be mounted, commissioned, inspected, serviced and operated by author-
ized persons. Authorized persons are
• persons with a suitable technical training and
• who have been trained in the operation by the machine owner and
• have been informed about the applicable safety guidelines and
• have access to these operating instructions.
• For electrical equipment intended for use in areas with explosion hazard, the specialised personnel
also needs knowledge about the explosion protection concept.

1.2 Symbols used

you from accidents. Read and observe carefully all safety notes.

1.3 Transport/Storage

Check the delivery immediately upon receipt for possible transport damages. In case of any damages,
inform the shipping company immediately. It may be necessary to renounce commissioning the encoder.
If you do not mount the encoder immediately, store it in a dry and dust-free place, preferably in its
transport packaging.

1.4 Intended use

The Sendix SIL safe encoders shall be used exclusively as safe rotation angle / position / speed

sensors.
Any other use or any modification at the device, also during mounting and installation, will woid the
warranty given by the Kübler Group.

1.5 Further applicable documents

All technical information is given in the corresponding data sheets of the encoders. You will find there
the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the Sendix SIL encoders.
