INSTRUCTIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
CENTRIFUGAL ELECTRO-FANS
Please read this instructions booklet carefully before installing or starting up the product. It contains important information on personal and user
safety measures to be followed while installing, using and carrying out maintenance work on the equipment. It is necessary to read the manual
and comply with all the indications in it before installing the machine and starting it up. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference,
since it contains the EC declaration of conformity for the supplied machine.
This manual contains the information necessary for the transport, movement, storage, installation, use and maintenance of the direct drive or
belt drive centrifugal fans. For the use and maintenance of the motor, along with the electrical safety precautions, see the specific manual of the
electrical motor manufacturer, which is attached.
Soler & Palau shall be in no way liable for any troubles, breakages or accidents due to failure to comply with the indications contained in the
following instructions manual.
TRANSPORT and MANIPULATION
- Protect the fan from any bangs which may jeopardise its integrity.
- The fans are equipped with special orifices in order to introduce the elevation hooks. In order to move the fans, it is necessary to use means
with sufficient capacity with regards to the weight to be raised.
- Take great care during the lifting: the fan may slant.
- Never lift a product by pulling it by the wires or terminal casing. Likewise, no pressure should be applied on the propeller, turbine or safety
grid while manipulating the product.
- Before manipulating the appliance, make sure the mains supply is disconnected, even if the machine is switched off.
STORAGE
- We recommend installing the fan as soon as it is received.
- If this is not possible, the fans should be stored in protected, dry areas which are safeguarded from dust and corrosion.
- We recommend sealing the inlet and outlet of the fan in order to prevent foreign bodies from settling inside.
- Whenever the fan is to be stored for a certain amount of time, we recommend turning manually the fan impeller every 3 or 4 weeks, in order
to prevent the load falling always on the same ball of the bearings.
MAINTENANCE AND USE
INSTALLATION
- Installation must only be carried out by qualified persons.
- Check that the mains supply voltage and frequency values coincide with the stipulations on the characteristics plate (maximum variation in
voltage and frequency + 10%).
- Please follow the connections diagram for the electrical connections.
- Check that earth connection is correctly connected. When carrying out the electrical installation to supply the motor, ensure there are
electrical cut-off devices and protection from excess loads and short-circuits (Standard EN 60204.1); in high pressure fans, remember that the
start-up times are long, as a result of the inertia of the impeller;
- Make sure that the installation complies with each country's current mechanical and electrical norms.
- Once ready to use, the apparatus must fulfil the following standards:
Standard for Low Pressure Instalments 72/23 CEE

Machinery Standard 89/392/CE

Standard for Electromagnetic Compatibility 89/396/CE.

- Ventilators installed in high risk areas that are accessible to users must be adequately protected in order to comply with the Standards. Any
area in or around a machine, where the presence of people can cause situations of danger for their safety or health, can be considered a high
risk area.
- Ventilators, or their components, have been designed to move the air in the area stipulated on their characteristics plate.
- This fan must not be used in explosive or corrosive atmospheres.
- Centrifugal fans, which are supplied fully mounted, must be installed on a solid, level base. We recommend introducing special thicknesses
whenever the fan is not secured to the floor, in order to prevent the twisting and dis-alignment of the supports and pulleys which can generate
vibrations and precipitated wearing away.
- Whenever the installation is carried out on upper levels, it is necessary to check that the floor is capable of supporting at least twice the
weight of the fan, and we recommend using antivibration supports.
- During installation it is essential to take care when connecting the ducts to the fan flanges, ensuring that the ducts and other network
accessories are supported and anchored separately by the fan, with the axis coinciding perfectly. This is used to, when tightening the
attachment screws of the ducts to the fan, prevent deformations in the fan which may cause it to become unbalanced and produce contact
between the scroll and the wheel.
START-UP
Before starting up, it is necessary to ensure that:
- The bearings of the fan and the motor are properly lubricated; that all the screws are properly secured in place, in particular the screw which
locks the wheel in its shaft, and the screws for the tightening base, the bearing supports.
- The mechanical protections to prevent accidents are correctly assembled;
- All the parts rotate freely without any contact;
- There are no foreign bodies inside the fan which may be blown outwards.
Moreover, it is necessary to carry out the following actions:
- Check that the rotation direction of the motor is as specified with the arrow placed on the fan rating plate.
- Start up the motor, checking that the current absorbed in operation does not exceed that specified on the rating plate.
- We recommend starting up the motor with the airflow regulation elements (where appropriate) completely open.
- Check that the fan bearings do not overheat in the first 3-4 hours of operation. In fact, the bearings reach their maximum temperature in the
initial hours of operation, for which reason we recommend halting the machine and allowing it to cool down to atmospheric temperature.
When starting up again, check that the temperature of the bearings is lower than previously.
