The zone in which the machines is used is to be considered a "Danger zone"
(i.e. a zone in proximity to which the presence of an exposed person
constitutes a risk to the health and safety of that person). This rule is
particularly important for persons not trained to use the machine.
The area around the machines work zone must always be kept clean and free
-
from any obstructions. Make sure no persons or animals are in the area of
machines operation.
-
When a person is "exposed", that is, in a "danger zone", the operator must
immediately stop the machines and ensure that person leaves the danger
zone.
-
When the machines is running, the worker must maintain a position that will
allow complete control of the machines so that appropriate action can be taken
according to circumstance.
-
Before leaving the machines unattended make sure the power supply is
detached.
-
Periodically check the machines is in good working order, safety devices
included.
2.3.2. Safety: maintenance
-
Before carrying out any work on the machines, make sure the power supply is
disconnected.
-
Maintenance tasks must always be carried out by personnel qualified for such
tasks.
-
At the end of maintenance/repair work the technician must make sure that the
work has been completed, the safety devices re-enabled and the covers re-
fitted before restarting the machines.
-
Use of appropriate personal protection equipment during maintenance/repair
work is compulsory. Such equipment includes:
Gloves
Hard hat
Adjustment work done with safety devices disabled or covers removed must be carried
out by one worker only; when such work is being carried out access to the machines by
unauthorised personnel is prohibited. Prevent dust deposits on the machines, especially
on electric motor and intake filters.
NOTE: Do not direct water jets against the machines (e.g. to clean it); this
could cause short-circuiting!
