Instructions for use

Use:
1. Apply the handbrake and put the gear lever in "neutral" or "P";
switch off the ignition of both cars before connecting up the booster cables.
2. Lay the booster cable wires so that they cannot become caught in revolving parts
of the engine in the engine compartment.
3. First attach the red cable (+)to the positive terminal of the discharged battery
and then to the positive terminal of the feeder battery.
4. Next connect the black cable (-) first to the negative terminal of the feeder battery
and then to the chassis of the car to be boost-started, e.g. to the earthing cable or
to a clean point on the engine block. Connect it as far away from the battery as possible,
to prevent detonation of any explosive gases which may develop.
5. Start the engine on the feeder vehicle and bring it to medium speed. Now start the other vehicle.
6. After carrying out the starting procedure (not longer than 15 seconds), wait for at least a minute.
7. The booster cables must be removed in the reverse order while the engine is still running.
8. Once the engine which required boost-starting has been successfully started,
wait for 2 to 3 minutes, until the engine is running smoothly.
Safety precautions:
• Nominal voltage of both batteries must be the same, and the capacity (AH)
of the feeder battery must not be considerably less than that of the capacity
of the battery on the vehicle to be boost-started.
• Cubic capacity of the two vehicles must lie within the following limits**.
• A discharged battery may freeze up at a temperature of -10°C. If the battery is frozen,
it MUST be defrosted before booster cables are attached.
• Avoid contact between the two vehicles, otherwise current may flow
as soon as the positive terminals are connected.
• Keep away from sources of ignition (danger of explosion)!
• Do not lean over the battery (risk of inhaling noxious gases)!
• Do not uncouple the discharged battery either at boost-starting
or for boost-starting from its on-board system!
• The red (+) cable must not be allowed to come into contact with conductive
parts of the vehicle and the cable clamps must not be allowed to touch each other,
otherwise a short-circuit may be caused.
Safety through over-voltage protection switch:
• drastically reduces the risk of a battery explosion.
• limits possible dangerous peak voltages to completely harmless voltages.
• reduces sparking considerably.
• protects the whole of the vehicle electronics system.
