1224 Threading Machine
5. Tighten machine chuck handwheel securely onto
nipple chuck.
NOTE! Short lengths of pipe may be cut to length while
being held in nipple chuck.
6. Ream and thread end of pipe.
7. Once thread is cut, loosen machine chuck hand-
wheel and remove nipple from nipple chuck. (Figure
28C)
8. Gently tap nipple chuck on machine carriage to
loosen nipple from nipple chuck.
DO NOT try to make nipples shorter than
CAUTION
". This will cause nipple chuck to hit die head.

Short or Close Nipple Threading
Procedure
DO NOT start machine when chuck
WARNING
wrench is engaged with adapter or release collar.
1. Grip pipe in machine chuck. Thread and ream one
end and cut nipple to desired length.
2. Place nipple chuck body (Figure 29) in machine
chuck, gripping jaw grooves.
3. Position insert (Figure 29) small end toward adapter
" to " pipe; large end with 1" pipe; no insert

4. Select proper size nipple chuck adapter and screw into
nipple chuck by hand (Figure 29). Tighten with wrench
provided with nipple chuck.
5. Screw nipple, (Figure 30), threaded on one end, into
adapter by hand. Ream and thread other end.
6. Insert pin on end of wrench (Figure 30) into one of
holes in nipple chuck release collar and turn. Remove
threaded nipple by hand.
WARNING To prevent injury, remove wrench be-
fore turning on machine.
