Heater Component
Function
Burner
Provides an area where fuel and air mix for proper
combustion.
Circuit Breaker
Manual reset component that protects the ignition
control from an over current or electrical short.
Differential Air Pressure Switch
Safety device which is used to ensure the motor is
operating at proper speed before voltage is sent to the
igniter and to the gas control valve for ignition.
Direct Spark Ignition Control
Electronic printed circuit board which sends and
receives voltages to and from various components in
the ignition system. A safety feature of the control is
it will shut down the entire heater stopping the fl ow of
gas if burner fl ame goes out.
Fan
Component used in conjunction with the motor to pull
fresh air into the heater for combustion and circulate
the heated air.
Gas Control Solenoid Valve
Houses an electromagnet which is energized by volt-
age and opens and allow gas passage to the burner.
Gas Hose
Flexible connector used to convey gas from the supply
to the heater.
Igniter
Automatic ignition device used it ignite the gas by
spark. Also serves as a fl ame sensor on direct fl ame
sense systems.
Boss DF Construction Heaters
Ignition Cable
Used to supply high voltage from the ignition control to
the igniter for ignition of the gas. Also provides a pathway
from the ignition control to the igniter for sensing burner
fl ame presence.
Motor
Electrical device operated by the ignition control to force
preheated air through the heater and to circulate it within
a specifi c area. Converts electrical energy into mechani-
cal energy.
Regulator
Used in gas distribution systems to reduce a high gas
supply pressure to a lower pressure for heater operation.
This device supplies a steady pressure despite changes
in the inlet pressure, heater demand, and weather condi-
tions.
Relay
Component used to provide power to the motor for both
HEAT and VENT modes.
Selector Switch
Allows the user to select between HEAT or VENT. When
HEAT is selected, the burner will ignite. When VENT is
used, ONLY the fan motor operates.
Thermostat
Electrical device used as a simple on/off switch which
responds to changes in temperature.
Voltage Meter
Provides the user with a ready reference to incoming
power supply voltage
