GENU SLEEVE
Dear Customer,
We are very pleased that you have decided in favour of the Genu sleeve, a quality product from the Össur company.
Please read the following user tips carefully and above all, make sure you follow the care and safety instructions.
We would like to wish you many happy hours with the Genu sleeve from Össur.
The Genu sleeve has been developed especially to meet the needs of prosthesis wearers to a high degree.
Particularly high standards were set for quality and functionality to satisfy the users' special needs.
Thanks to the special round-knit technology the Genu sleeve is seamless and thus extremely flexible. This allows
for very good adaptation to human legs and guarantees a virtually wrinkle-free fit.
The special coating on the inside ensures an air-tight joint between the socket and the skin, and thus holds the
prosthesis securely on the residual limb.
The interaction between the highly flexible knit and the thin coating gives high freedom of movement.
In addition, the Protector included in the package extends the life of the Genu sleeve. It is pulled over the edge of
the socket and is worn under the Genu sleeve.
The Genu sleeve is only to be used with a leg prosthesis. It provides for adhesion between the residual limb and/or
the Liner and the prosthesis. The size of the suspension sleeve is determined by measuring the circumference 15
cm above the patella (Fig. 1). The size is determined by the orthopedic technician.
USE OF THE GENU SLEEVE
Donning the Genu sleeve
• Pull the Protector with the adhesive strap downwards over the socket (Fig. 3)
• Pull the Genu sleeve over the socket edge to the comfort zone (visibly bulging section in the middle of the
suspension sleeve - Fig. 2). (Fig. 4 & Fig. 5)
• Turn the suspension sleeve and the protector and slide the turned section downwards over the socket. (Fig. 6)
• After stepping into the prosthesis the suspension sleeve should be smoothed down over the Liner, without any
wrinkles or tension if possible, to the skin of the residual limb (Fig. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).
Warning: The suspension sleeve should be put on with the knee bent slightly to avoid high pressure on the patellar
tendon of the knee joint.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARE
• Please note that the Genu sleeve should be washed with neutral soap every time it has been worn. To do this
turn the suspension sleeve inside out, clean the inside thoroughly with the neutral soap, rinse with plenty of
cold water, and dry off any surplus water with a lint-free cloth.
• The outside of the Genu sleeve can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
• Make sure that no foreign bodies such as grains of sand become attached to the inside of the suspension
sleeve. In many cases washing the inside to remove any dirt is then inadequate because these foreign bodies
penetrate into the soft inner material. This could damage the inner coating and cause considerable skin
irritation.
• Please note that many shower gels, soaps, bath additives, deodorants, perfumes, alcohol sprays etc. can cause
skin irritation with perfumes and dyes. In order to prevent possible skin problems please do not use such
articles when using the Genu sleeve.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• The Genu sleeve must be washed carefully before being used for the first time.
• When cutting the Genu sleeve to size, make sure there are no sharp edges, corners or wrinkles. These can lead
to rips in the material and/or skin problems.
• Please follow the instructions for donning the Genu sleeve exactly.
• Make sure that the comfort zone on the Genu sleeve is positioned as closely as possible at the level of the
patella.
• Check that the suspension sleeve fits without any wrinkles or tension.
• Please care for your Genu sleeve as described.
