Information for use
sera UV-C System for sera marin Biotop LED Cube 130
Please read these instructions carefully and keep for future use. When forwarding this unit to third parties, this
information for use is also to be handed over.
Thank you for purchasing the sera UV-C System.
The sera UV-C System is a component of the sera marin
Biotop LED Cube 130, but can also be used in other sim-
ilarly sized aquariums.

Application range

sera UV-C Systems reliably remove all kinds of floating
algae and reduce the multiplication of thread and other
algae without using chemicals. Pathogens and cloudy
water caused by bacteria are also permanently removed.
The sera UV-C System allows to effectively prevent
pathogen multiplication especially in marine water, where
using chemicals is rather risky.
The effect of the UV-C lamp is strictly physical and restrict-
ed to the water flowing through, thus ensuring that the in-
habitants of the sera marin Biotop LED Cube 130 and the
filter are not harmed.
Application
The unit must only be operated with a water flow pump. The
UV-C system does not provide an own circulation system.
The efficacy of the unit against floating algae and patho-
gens depends on the water flow rate. The slower the water
flows along the UV-C lamp, the longer the exposure time,
allowing to kill pathogens more efficiently.
Kit includes (fig.)
1 UV-C lamp 5 W
2 Electronic ballast 12 V 6 W
3 Transformer 230 V AC 12 V AC 650 mA
4 Flow pump STP 1000
5 Hose diameter 12/16 mm
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Dangerous ultraviolet radiation!
To prevent eye damage, never look directly into the UV-C
lamp without protection when it is operating (eye damage!).
The sera UV-C lamp may be operated only according to
these directions for use. Improper use may lead to skin
and eye damage!
• The casing of the lamp must not be opened or dam aged.
• Keep UV units and UV-C lamps out of the reach of chil-
dren!
• All electrical units connected to the Biotop LED Cube
must be disconnected from the power/mains supply be-
fore conducting work at the sera UV-C System.
• Operate unit only with a residual current protective de-
vice (RCD, 30 mA).
• Never operate the UV-C system without water flow!
• Ensure that there is sufficient water flow through the sera
UV-C System before switching on the UV-C lamp. A min-
imum flow rate must be ensured also during operation.
• Too frequent "ON/OFF" switching reduces the life expec-
tancy of the UV-C lamp. The unit should be operated per-
manently for 24 h/d as to achieve best possible results.
• Ensure plug and outlet is accessible to reach at all times.
• The transformer and the ballast must be protected
against water.
• The unit must not be operated in case the electrical cord,
a plug connection or a casing are damaged.
• The unit must not be operated at temperatures above
35°C (95°F) or in case of frost.

Assembly instruction

The sera UV-C System is by default pre-installed in the
sera marin Biotop LED Cube 130.
The sera UV-C System is directly connected to the flow
pump (4) and the outlet of the internal filter. It serves as last
step of the 4 chamber internal filter. The purified water
flows back into the Biotop LED Cube through the outlet
opening of the internal filter.
Operation (fig.)
Make sure the lamp is completely immersed and that water
circulates around it before switching on the UV-C lamp (1).
The lamp must not be operated dry, as to prevent over-
heating. The UV-C lamp (1) must be operated only with the
transformer (3) and the ballast (2) in cluded with the kit. The
black plug (3.1) of the trans former (3) is connected to the
black cable connector (2.1) of the ballast (2). The blue plug
(1.1) of the UV-C lamp (1) is connected to the blue cable
connector (2.2) of the ballast (2). The transformer (3) may
only be connected to the mains supply when all connec-
tions are made and the UV-C system is immersed in the
water. You must not interchange the connectors.
Lamp operation is indicated by the red LED (2.3) on the
ballast (2).
Testing the UV-C lamp
Attention! Be sure to wear UV protection glasses!
Switch on the UV-C system for checking whether the UV-C
lamp of the sera UV-C System is working. A dim bluish
light can be seen at the outlet when the lamp is on. Avoid
looking into the UV-C light for a longer time.
