Functional braces are indicated for use in the
following situations:
• Mild to severe ligament instability or laxity,
ligament deficiency, or ligament sprains
• Protection and stabilization of ligaments after
surgical repair or reconstruction
Applying the Brace:
To fasten the Paradigm brace straps, pass the
straps through the D-Rings, pull to tighten and
attach the straps back onto themselves.
To Start:
A. Always loosen the ATS Strap (#5) before
affi xing your brace. This allows you to set the brace
position properly. With your leg in full extension, as
shown at left, align the brace so the middle of the
hinges are parallel with the top of the patella and
are centered between the front and back of the leg.
Strap Sequence:
B. Secure the Mid-Strap (#1) fi rst. Fasten this
strap tight enough to secure the brace position.
The strap pad should rest on the top of the calf
muscle.
C. Fasten the Lower Thigh Strap (#2).
D. Affix the Lower Calf (#3) Strap.
E. Affix the Upper Thigh (#4) strap.
F. Slightly flex the knee and pull the hinges
forward approximately 1-2 cm (3/8"-13/16").
G. Holding the hinge in place with one hand,
tighten the ATS strap (#5)
H. Walk and move around to allow the brace to
settle into position. When positioned correctly,
the middle of the hinges will be centered on the
knee. If necessary, re-adjust the straps in the
same order.
Range of Motion Adjustment (ROM):
Adjustment should be performed by a health care
professional. The brace comes with 0° extension
stops attached to the hinges. If needed, ROM
control can be adjusted using the Extension and
Flexion stops included with the brace. Extension
stops are labeled 0°, 5°, 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°.
Flexion stops are labeled 45°, 60°, 70° and 90°.
Adjusting the ROM:
1. Remove the condyle pads from the medial
and lateral hinges. Remove extension stop and
retaining screws. Using a screwdriver or pen,
slide the 0° stop out of the hinge on both sides.
2. Re-apply the desired extension stop and gently
secure it with the retaining screw (DO NOT
OVER TIGHTEN).
3. Follow the same procedure for the addition of
a flexion stop.
4. You may wish to add the tibial pad (included)
