5.9 Holder plate
5.10 Suction holder
Assembly instruction and operation
a) Filling with filter media and filter media change
Unscrew the upper (5.3) and the bottom part (5.8).
Take the upper punched disk (5.6) out. Now fill
in the desired filter medium up to approx. 1.5 cm
(0.6 in.) underneath the upper support for the
punched disk (5.6) on the standpipe. Make sure the
stand pipe remains in center position while filling.
Now put the upper punched disk (5.6) back onto
the support at the standpipe. Screw the upper part
back onto the bottom part. Filter media can be
replaced quickly and easily. Interrupt the water flow
and screw off the bottom part (5.8). Remove the
used filter medium and put in the new one as
described above.
Attention! Make sure the standpipe (5.5) inside the
sera multi fil 350 is inserted into the standpipe
holder (5.3.4).
b) Installation outside the aquarium (fig. 3) in the
circuit of an external filter (e.g. sera fil bioactive
400 + UV)
The sera multi fil 350 is inserted into the water
return hose after the external filter. Switch off the
existing external filter and empty the hoses con-
nected to it.
Find a suitable spot for hanging up the filter that
allows all hoses being laid out without sharp bends
and without much tension. Attach the holder plate
(5.9) of the filter in a way that allows hanging up the
filter in a vertical position (e.g. in the cabinet, fig. 3).
You can attach the holder plate (5.9) with screws
instead of the suction holders.
Cut the hose of the external filter that directs the
water cleaned by the filter back into the aquarium
in a suitable position. Connect the connectors of
the sera multi fil 350 to the external filter circuit via
the open ends of the water hose and secure their
position with the attached union nuts at the water
intake (5.3.2) and outlet (5.3.3). You can additionally
insert water valves in the hoses as to interrupt the
water flow very easily later on (fig. 3).
Now the air vent hose 4/6 mm (5.2) is pushed onto
the air vent opening (5.3.1).
Before filling with water, make sure the upper part
(5.3) is safely screwed onto the bottom part (5.8) by
hand (do not use any tools for this purpose) so no
water can leak out. You can now fill the external fil-
ter with water. While doing so, the sera multi fil 350
will also run full of water. Please read the corre-
sponding instructions for ventilation (see e, please).
c) Installation inside the aquarium (fig. 1)
You need a separate water pump such as the sera
submersible pump P 400 adjustable for operation
if you wish to use the sera multi fil 350 inside the
aquarium. The pump is connected to the intake
opening (5.3.2) of the filter with a hose. Attach the
holder plate (5.9) to the aquarium glass by using the
suction holders (5.10). Hang the sera multi fil 350
into the holder. Push the hose onto the intake open-
ing (5.3.2) and secure the hose with the union nut.
Connect the hose to the aquarium pump. Push
a hose onto the outlet opening (5.3.3) and posi-
tion the outlet hose according to your require-
ments. Ventilate the sera multi fil 350 as described
under e).
d) Installation in the sump of a marine aquarium
(fig. 2)
A separate water pump, e.g. the sera submersible
pump P 400 adjustable, is required for operation.
The pump is placed in the sump and connected to
the intake opening (5.3.2) of the sera multi fil 350
by a hose. Attach the holder plate (5.9), for
instance, to the back wall of the aquarium cabinet.
Hang the filter into the holder. Push the hose onto
the intake opening (5.3.2) and secure the hose with
the union nut. Connect the hose to the aquarium
pump. Push a hose onto the outlet opening (5.3.3)
and direct the outlet into the aquarium. Ventilate the
sera multi fil 350 as described under e).
e) Ventilating the sera multi fil 350
The filter can be ventilated during operation. Open
the air vent valve (5.1) to do so and let the excess
air escape from the upper part (5.3) until no air bub-
bles are visible any more.
Cleaning
Remove the sera multi fil 350 from the aquarium or
the filter circuit. The filter can be entirely dismantled
(5). Clean the separate parts in lukewarm water with a
moist cloth or a soft brush without adding detergents
or solvents. Install the filter again as described in the
installation instructions after cleaning.
It is possible that some air is trapped inside the sera
multi fil 350 during the first operating days after hav-
ing cleaned the sera multi fil 350 or an external filter.
You can remove it as described under "Ventilating the
sera multi fil 350" (see "Assembly instruction and
operation").
