Monocular examination
Attaching the loupe
The loupe makes examination easier for presbyopes and gives a magnified fundus
image: Slide the holder (1) onto the cylindrical upper part of the instrument. The loupe
should be fitted behind and parallel to the vertical face of the prism. The beam should
not traverse the loupe.
Using the orbital support
The orbital support (3) helps the user to steady the instrument during the examination.
Spectacle wearers can use the extension piece which is delivered with the instrument.
The extension piece (8) should be inserted sideways into the orbital support so that the
guides (9) engage in the slit provided.
Binocular examination
Preparation
Release the friction clutch (10) on the binocular attachment. Remove the loupe from
the instrument and attach the binocular attachment as illustrated. Tighten the friction
clutch by rotating the lever provided until the attachment sits firmly on the instrument.
Adjusting the optics
Turn the knob (12) to adjust the P.D. to the appropriate value shown on the scale (11).
With the instrument switched on, select the desired spot size. Look through the bino-
cular attachment without accomodating at a light-coloured surface at a distance of
30 – 40 cm. A small object, such as a pencil, must be in focus. (+2 diopter lenses are
built into the viewing apertures (13). Spectacle wearers should view through the
"long-range" part of bi-focal spectacles). The fine adjustment of the P.D. can then be
made by centring the light-spot in each viewing aperture by closing one eye at a time.
Two replacement plain lenses are included with the instrument. If required the eye-
pieces can be unscrewed and 2D lenses exchanged for the above.
The setup and operation of the HEINE handles are described in a separate instruction
for use.
Hygienic reprocessing
The instruction is available:

Maintenance
The instruments do not require maintenance or service.
Changing the light source
Allow the device to cool down before changing the bulb.
Remove the instrument from the handle (14) and pull the bulb out of the socket (6).
Clean the glass of the new bulb with a soft cloth. Replace the bulb in the socket so
that the guide (7) engages in the cutout of the socket.
Service
The device has no components serviceable by the end-user.
