GENERAL REMINDERS:
To preserve the quality of the TECUMSEH unit and ensure that
it functi ons properly, it is advisable to:
- Check that the circuit to be connected is clean and dry.
- Purge the system with nitrogen while brazing and ensure the
fl ame is held well away from electrical equipment.
- Insulate the sucti on pipe up to the compressor inlet to limit
sucti on overheati ng and to prevent condensati on. For low
temperature applicati ons, select insulati on of a minimum
thickness of 19 mm. Link all lines with syntheti c rubber tape
and att ach them to walls using clamps.
- Use only the refrigerant for which the compressor has been
designed.
- For low-pressure compressor units, a thermostati c expansion
device is preferable to a capillary.
- Only use components that are compati ble with the designated
refrigerant.
- Do not add any additi ves or dyes.
- Ensure tubing is installed in a manner which prevents oil
becoming trapped and aids the absorpti on of vibrati ons and
expansion.
- Do not add oil, except in cases where piping is longer than
10 m; in this instance, use oil recommended by TECUMSEH.
If your installati on has verti cal pipe risers, you will have to
create U traps or reduce the diameter of the pipework to get a
suffi cient rate of climb for the oil circulati on.
- Orientate the overpressure protecti on correctly in a directi on
that is not dangerous for the user and in accordance with
EN378.
- Cut and deburr the tubing carefully to prevent entry of dust
and metallic parti cles inside the system. Never use a saw to cut
tubing and use a correctly-sized tube bender based on the tube
diameter to prevent the pipe being excessively compressed.
TECUMSEH recommends using brazed connecti ons instead of
screw connecti ons to limit the risks of leaks over ti me.
- Ensure the electrical insulati on of clamps. We recommend
that you put in place a cable tray according to the standard
NF C15-100 in France or the local standard in the country
concerned (IEC 60204/IEC 60335), separati ng it from the
refrigerant tubing.
- Protect the bodywork while soldering pipes.
See Appendix 1, for refrigerati on connecti on

Sucti on pipework
Discharge pipework
An oil separator prior to start up prevents the return of liquid
refrigerant to the compressor during the off cycle.
Two non-return valves are fi tt ed on the condensing unit, one
upstream of the separator, one downstream.

Installati on Instructi ons
Sucti on pipework returns refrigerant
gas to the compressor from the
evaporator. In practi ce, the sucti on
pipework should be designed to
limit the pressure drop.
-
If the compressor is located
higher than the evaporator, sucti on
risers must be used. Pipeline velocity
must be suffi cient to ensure oil fl ow
in the sucti on risers.
-
If the compressor is on the same
level or lower than the evaporator,
we recommend that swan neck
sucti on line is used where the
top of the swan neck is above the
evaporator.

Liquid pipework
Pressure drop in the pipework must be prevented. The components
fi tt ed to the liquid line such as the fi lter drier, solenoid valve, liquid
line sight glass can have a pressure drop which is signifi cant.
The pressure drop per component should be checked to
ensure it is not excessive.
The design of rotary compressors makes any emptying or
refi lling of refrigerant charge impossible.
■ ■ 3.8■Electrical■connecti ■ ons
Ensure the electrical supply is disconnected before
carrying out any wiring or repairs of the unit.
All cabling on site must conform with NF C15- 100 in France
or to the current legislati on in the country in questi on
(IEC 60204/IEC 60335).
According to standard IEC60335, the degree of polluti on is 3.
WARNING
To ensure the quality of a TECUMSEH condensing unit, it is
essenti al to:
- Check that the installati on power supply voltage is compati ble
with that of the condensing unit (see identi fi cati on plate).
- Check the compati bility of the wiring diagram with that of
the installati on.
- Size the cables (power and control circuits) according to the
specifi cati ons of the condensing unit installed.
See table of current rati ngs
in the Electrical Data Instructi ons
- Ensure that the power supply to the unit is correctly
protected and earthed.
- Ensure that all electrical connecti ons conform to the local
standards and follow recommended best practi ce.
- Ensure that the unit is earthed when replacing components.
- It is recommended to add a phase controller on the power
supply of Scroll compressors.
Like the protector, it is vital to use the relay delivered with the
compressor, even if another model seems to be sati sfactory at
a given ti me. All the compressors in the TECUMSEH range are
protected by an external or internal protecti on mechanism,
for which the principle is based on a current /temperature
combinati on. Like any protecti on mechanism, it is normal for
it to disconnect the compressor's power supply outside the
normal usage ranges provided by TECUMSEH.
■ ■ 3.9.Connecti ■ ng■components
Please refer to the wiring diagram (refer to Silensys®' electrical
data instructi ons
) when connecti ng components.
- Connect all control and safety devices fi tt ed to the unit.
- Secure wiring using the clips fi tt ed to the condensing unit.
- Close the electrical box aft er wiring.
4- START UP
Our compressors are designed to operate at a maximum
ambient temperature of 46 °C. Do not exceed this temperature.
To opti mize the quanti ty of refrigerant in the installati on,
respect the rules of the art. For the diff erent conditi ons of use of
the compressor, do not exceed its maximum allowable pressure PS
(see identi fi cati on label).
If there is a single-walled tube between the water and the
refrigerant (e.g.: water evaporator) and if a leak occurs through
this wall, the refrigerant leaks outside and water enters the
system, creati ng a vapour eff ect. Without a safety device,
the compressor will behave like a vapour generator and the
motor's heati ng will generate a high increase in pressure.
