Note
The figures on page 2, figs. 2&3 and page 3, fig. 1 show the procedure for the Audi A5. The procedures for the
N
A5 Sportback, A4 saloon, A4 Avant and A4 allroad quattro are identical.
The sensor mounting holes -arrows- must be drilled in the positions marked on the inside of the bumper covering -1-.
N
Apply masking tape liberally in the areas where the holes are to be drilled in order to protect the bumper covering -1-.
−
Remove the bumper covering -1-.

Exterior bodywork fitting; Repair Group 63; bumpers
Page 2 - Fig. 3
Inside the bumper covering are four cross-wire or circle markings to permit mounting of the sensors. The drilling
positions are the centre points of these crosses or circles.
Center punch the drilling positions on the bumper covering and drill by using a ∅ 2 mm bit.
−
Use a ∅ 20 mm Forstner bit to drill the holes -A- from the outside.
−
To prevent rotating of the sensors, an upward-pointing notch -arrow- about 1 mm deep is needed in the holes.
File an upward-pointing notch -arrow- with a small triangular file in all four holes.
−
Remove the swarf from the holes for the sensors in the bumper covering.
−
1.3 Fit sensors, connect and route the harness in position
Page 3 - figure 1
Route the supplied sensor harness to the drilled -holes -1- to -4- in the bumper covering. Wire 1 must be plugged
−
into the right drilled hole -1- and the other wires 2 - 4 must then be connected sequentially.
Use the supplied socket cable ties -arrows- to secure the sensor harness to the lugs of the bumper covering.
−
Use a supplied socket cable tie -5- to secure the harness to the bumper covering.
−
Page 3 - figure 2
Note
The following steps can only be completed after the paint on the sensors is completely dry.
N
For reasons of clarity, the figure shows a dismantled sensor.
N
The pin -arrow- on the sensors -2- must engage in the notch filed into the bumper covering (see Page 2, figure 3,
N
-arrow-). The correct position can be seen from the outside, using the markings in the outer ring of the sensors -
these must point upwards.
The connector -3- is designed such that it can only be connected with the socket -1- on the sensor -2- in one position.
N
Clip the sensors -2- into the holes in the bumper covering.
−
Push the connector -3- on to the sensor sockets -2-. Push the covers -4-over the sensors.
−
A5, A5 Sportback and A4 saloon only:
Page 3 - figure 3
Remove the original plug -arrow-.
−
Note
If a wire and wiring grommet are already fitted (e.g. for vehiclew with trailer equipment) rather than a plug -arrow-,
remove the wiring grommet from the supplied sensor harness. Make an extra hole in the existing grommet and route
the sensor harness through this into the vehicle interior. Seal the extra hole in the grommet with a suitable sealant.
A4 Avant and A4 allroad quattro only:
Page 3 - figure 4
Remove the original plug -arrow-.
−
Note
If a wire and wiring grommet are already fitted (e.g. for vehiclew with trailer equipment) rather than a plug -arrow-,
remove the wiring grommet from the supplied sensor harness. Make an extra hole in the existing grommet and route
the sensor harness through this into the vehicle interior. Seal the extra hole in the grommet with a suitable sealant.
