Page 5 - Fig. 3
Note
The figure shows the procedure for the Audi A5. The procedures for the A5 Sportback, A4 saloon, A4 Avant and
A4 allroad quattro are identical.
Push the control unit -4- in the control units mounting bracket so that the wires are directed towards the luggage
−
compartment.
Secure the buzzer harness with the supplied cable ties to the existing car wiring -arrows-.
−
Connect the black wire from the power harness to the earthing point -3- in the car luggage compartment.
−
Route the red wire of the power harness to the fuse housing on the control units mounting bracket.
−
Only for left-hand drive cars:
Unwind approximately 50 mm of the harness protective tape on the car wiring to the connector -1- .
−
Cut through the car's black/white wire (connector 1, pin 1).
−
Crimp one end of the black/white wire -A- in the supplied duraseal connector -D-.
−
Crimp the free end of the black/white wire -B- and the red wire -C- of the power harness together in the duraseal
−
connector -D-.
Only for right-hand drive cars:
Unwind approximately 50 mm of the harness protective tape on the car wiring to the connector -2- .
−
Cut through the car's black wire (connector 2, pin 14).
−
Crimp one end of the black wire -A- in the supplied duraseal connector-D-.
−
Crimp the free end of the black wire -B- and the red wire -C- of the power harness together in the duraseal con-
−
nector -D-.
Continuation for all cars:
Heat-shrink the duraseal connector -D- to seal it, using the hot air blower from the VAS 1978 wiring repair set.
−
Secure the red wire to the existing wires with the supplied cable ties.
−
Renew the harness protective tape.
−
Set up the parking distance control system.

1.6 Setting up the parking distance control
Page 6 - figure 2
Note
When setting up cars with a removable towhook, this must be fitted.
N
To avoid errors, do not use a metal wall (e.g. a garage door) and avoid shiny white walls.
N
Do not enter the sensor detection area -A- during setup.
N
To set up the parking distance control system reverse the car until it is 50 cm from a wall.
−
Switch off the engine.
−
Switch on the ignition and engage reverse gear.
−
The controller signals the start of the learning process with a double beep.
If there is no beep after engaging reverse gear, look for a fault.
1.7 Setup troubleshooting
A single long tone must sound within a maximum of 100 seconds - this tone denotes that the learning process has
been completed successfully.
If the learning process is not confirmed as complete within 100 seconds, you must look for a fault.
1.7 Setup troubleshooting
After the successfully completed learning process is signalled audibly, and the ignition switched off, cut the blue
−
loop wire from the power harness.
Isolate the ends of the cut blue wire.
−
This ends the setting up process.
Check the parking distance control system functions using the enclosed operating instructions.
−
If all the parking distance control system functions are in order, complete final fitting.
