OPERATION

Refer to Figures 10-17.
DESCRIPTION
The Knova Belt and Disc Sander is constructed of rugged
die cast aluminum and cast iron providing stability and
vibration-free operation. The belt and disc are used to sand,
deburr, bevel and grind workpieces of wood and plastic.
The belt platen, fastened behind the belt, supports the belt
for flat sanding. It can be removed for contour or curved
sanding. The disc can be used to sand or bevel surfaces.
Sander has two dust ports for attaching to a dust collector
(not included) that collects dust from either the belt or disc.
Dust is collected and directed to the dust port by the Sander's
safety dust deflector or disc cover. Dust ports measure
(1-3/4" ODx 1-1/4" ID).
Sander MUST be used with a dust collector attached to the
dust port of the sanding surface (belt or disc) being used.
Never use the machine with the dust ports blocked.
The adjustable miter gauge is used on the work table for
guiding the workpiece at a desired angle while sanding
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Whenever adjusting or replacing any parts on the tool,
turn switch OFF and remove the plug from power source.
• Recheck table handle and bolts. They must be tightened
securely.
• Make sure all guards are properly attached. All guards
should be securely fastened.
• Make sure all moving parts are free and clear of any
interference.
• Make sure all fasteners are tight and have not vibrated
loose.
• With power disconnected, test operation by hand for
clearance and adjust if necessary.
• Always wear eye protection or face shield.
• Make sure abrasive belt always tracks properly. Correct
tracking gives optimum performance.
• After turning switch on, always allow belt and disc to
come up to full speed before sanding or grinding.
• Be sure disc turns counterclockwise. Abrasive belt must
travel downward.
• Avoid kickback by sanding in accordance with the
directional arrows.
• Keep hands clear of abrasive belt, disc and all moving
parts.
• For optimum performance, do not stall motor or reduce
speed. Do not force the work into the abrasive.
• Always support workpiece with table or back stop when
sanding with belt and with table when sanding with disc.
• Never push a sharp corner of the workpiece rapidly
against the belt or disc. Abrasive backing may tear.
• Replace abrasives when they become loaded (glazed)
or frayed.
• Never block the Dust Ports. Always use the sander
connected to a dust collector to capture the dust created.
ON/OFF SWITCH
Refer to Figure 10.
The ON/OFF switch is located on the front of the base. To
turn the sander ON, pull the switch to the up position. To turn
the sander OFF, push the switch to the down position.
The sander can be locked from unauthorized use by locking
the switch. To lock the switch:
• Turn the switch to OFF position and disconnect sander
from power source.
• Pull the key out. The switch cannot be turned on with the
key removed.
NOTE: Should the key be removed from the switch at the ON
position, the switch can be turned off but cannot be turned on
again.
• To replace key, slide key into the slot on switch until it
snaps.

ADJUSTING BELT TRACKING
Refer to Figure 11.
• Turn the switch ON to check the belt tracking. Belt should
ride centered on idler and drive wheels. Adjust with the
tracking knob located at the back side of the machine.
• View the belt tracking on the top idler wheel through the
clear plastic safety guard.
• If belt rides to the left, carefully turn tracking knob to the
right. If belt rides to the right, turn tracking knob to
the left.
