CHARGER
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The Prodigy charger is designed to charge Nickel Cadmium
(NiCd), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) cells and battery packs
of between 1 and 10 cells (1.2 to 12 volt). It can also
charge Lead Acid (Pb) batteries of between 2 and 12 volt
and Lithium Ion (Lilo) cells and battery packs of between
3.6 and 11.1 volts.
• Place the charger on a firm level surface for charging.
• DO NOT cover charger.
• Take great care over battery polarity, and observe the
battery manufacturer's recommendations.
• Charge only rechargeable NiCd, NiMH, Pb and Lilo
battery packs.
• Avoid short circuits.
• NiCd/NiMH cells become warm to the touch when
charged. If the pack feels HOT to the touch, disconnect it
at once.
• Connect the input leads to the 12v supply first, then
connect the battery to be charged.
• ALWAYS disconnect all batteries when NOT charging,
as they may discharge themselves if left connected.
• DO NOT allow the input crocodile clips to touch each
other or the case of the charger when the battery being
charged is connected as this may cause a short circuit.
• Avoid short circuits.
• If NiCd/NiMH/Lilo packs are severely overcharged they
may become very HOT. For this reason it is always rec-
ommended to place the pack on an insulated heat resist-
ant surface for charging.
• The charger must ONLY be used in completely dry con-
ditions.
• DO NOT disassemble the charger.
• The Prodigy should be allowed to cool for about 10 min-
utes following two consecutive fast charge cycles.
• NEVER leave the charger unattended whilst charging.
• DO NOT fast charge batteries immediately after use
while they are still warm, allow to cool to ambient tem-
perature before charging.
Charger Connections
• Connect the input leads to the 12v supply, (normally a
12v battery, but a high quality power supply capable of
supplying 4.0 to 7 .0Amps can also be used). Connect the
RED crocodile clip to the POSITIVE terminal on the bat-
tery, the BLACK clip to the NEGATIVE.
• Connect the charge leads to be used into the spring
sockets on the end of the charger, ensuring that the
polarity is correct. Use shrouded contacts on the charge
lead to avoid any possibility of the contacts shorting out
on the metal case of the charger.
Operation
When the charger is connected to the charging battery or
power supply the display screen on the charger will show.
