Fall arrest harnesses to EN 361
The harness is safely connected to a rescue
or fall arrest system at the catch eyes (A or
A/2); the connectors employed (karabiners
should withstand a lateral force of ≥ 15 kN) must
conform to EN 362 and are fastened to the catch
eyes (marked A or A/2). When using the front
catch eyes A/2, both eyes must be attached to
the connector conforming to EN 362. Fall arrest
systems may or may not include fall energy
absorbers. In case of a fall, the fall arrest systems
must reduce the fall arresting force to a value that
can be borne by the human body (6 kN). Only
one fall arrest harness to EN 361 may be used
in each fall arrest system!
Before using a fall arrest system, ensure that the
required vacant space (clear height) of 7 m below
the user is available.
Fall arrest harnesses permanently integrated
into the clothing: The harness is put on by simply
putting on the clothing. For trousers, the fit of
the thigh loop is determined by the size of the
trousers. Adjust the fit as outlined below. A
harness integrated into "flame resistant" trousers
may only be used in connection with a suitable
protective jacket.
Partial system fall arrest harness to EN 361
If partial systems without supplied connectors
are combined to form a fall arrest harness to EN
361, only connectors (karabiners) to EN 362, type
M, may be used.
Approved partial systems may be attached to the
marked spots.
Sit harnesses to EN 813
On sit harnesses, the connector is fastened to the
ventral attachment point. If used in connection
with a chest harness, observe the following: Use
of a chest harness is determined in the hazard
analysis to be performed by a person trained
and instructed in this work technique. Wearing a
chest harness increases the comfort due to the
support function for the upper part of the body.
Observe the instructions for use of the chest
harness. A chest harness must never be used
without a sit harness, risk of fatal injury!
Attention! Sit harnesses are not suitable to
catch upon a fall!
Positioning harnesses to EN 358
Fasten connectors to the lateral support eyes;
the lateral support eyes must be used exclusively
for positioning. Keep the lanyard for a positioning
harness well tensioned; the attachment point
must be on one level with the hip or higher and
the free fall distance must be limited to max. 0.5 m.
Observe the following when using positioning
harnesses with a positioning sling: The rear
positioning sling is not a support eye for
positioning in a workplace to EN 358, nor is
it a catch eye! Together with a corresponding
lanyard it is exclusively meant to restrain the
movement, thus preventing a user from reaching
an area where he might fall (belt or lanyard for
restraint to EN 358). Hip harnesses to EN 358
are approved for users weighing up to 150 kg
including any tools or equipment carried along.
The need for a fall arrest system must be
considered in each case.
