The growth curve should not be too far above or below the average (50th percentile). A percentile of 50 (in
the median line) in height means that 50% of children of that age are taller and another 50% are shorter.
These curves are useful in highlighting any differences that may lead to a hypothesis (and therefore a rec-
ommended doctor's visit) of obesity, lack of bone growth or short stature.
