Checking the steering
Periodically check the condition of the steering system. Worn or
loose steering bearings may cause danger. Place a stand under
the engine to raise the front wheel off the ground. Hold the lower
ends of the fork legs and try to move them forward and backward.
If any free play can be felt, have a
repair the steering. This check is easier if the front wheel is
removed.
Securely support the vehicle so that there is no danger
of it falling over.
Wheel bearings
If there is play in the bearings of the front and rear wheel or the
wheel does not spin smoothly, have a
the wheel bearings.

Removing the battery
Remove the seat (see the Seat chapter), remove the cover (1 se-
curing screw), pulling it towards the back of the vehicle, remove
fuse F and disconnect the terminals by unscrewing the screws V.
Checking
Remove the fuse before you connect or disconnect the terminals
(3 red for the + pole and 2 black for the - pole).
Also check cables and retaining bolts for oxidation or corrosion.
Clean thoroughly or replace if damaged. Upon completion of this
operation, apply a thin coat of grease or vaseline to the terminals.
The battery fluid is poisonous and can cause severe
burns. It contains sulphuric acid. Avoid any contact with
skin, eyes or clothing.
DO NOT USE OR START THE VEHICLE IF THE BATTERY IS
NEITHER CONNECTED NOR WORKING.
