OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
For a proper seal bonding, enough adhesive curing time should be
ensured.
Adhesive strenght increases during the first days as it cures and for this process it is
very important to have a good contact wiht air.
When seals are subject to considerable efforts it is desirable to achieve a good
bonding, so it should pass 24 hours after the bonding in order to reach a value close
to the máximum possible.
10.5 DRY MECHANICAL SEAL
IMPORTANT!
If it is detected any loss in mechanical seal, the equipment should be
stopped immediately and perform a detailed inspection of mechanical
seal.
In all operations on the mechanical seal it is recommended to replace
the seals, as a preventative measure against a possible damage during
its manipulation or against aging or wear.
Problems and solutions of the mechanical seal
Problem
Seats are scratched.
Tightness seals are defective or dirty.
Another part is defective.
Assembly of the mechanical seal
If mechanical seal is removed, when it is assembled again the following verifications
should be done:
Verify that all seals have been assembled and that they and their support
-
surfaces are perfectly cleaned to obtain a perfect tightness.
Sealing seats should be perfectly cleaned and in perfect conditions.

VERY IMPORTANT: Seal should be assembled with a proper tightening. It
-
should be the minimum necessary to ensure the sealing and should not be
excessive to avoid shortening the useful life by excessive wear of seats or
breaking by overheating. So, the tightening distances should not be
modified.
After the assembly, if it is possible, verify manually that the axis of
-
mechanical seal rotates perfectly.
For the assembly of a dry mechanical seal you can place a little of
lubrication oil in the seats (never too much) in order to give a small
lubrication.
You should NOT use very viscous greases or oils, as the formed layer
can affect the proper seat of the mechanical seal.

Possible solution
Proceed lapping the seats to recover
them.
Proceed to replace the seals for new
ones.
Try to repair it or proceed to its
replacement..
