To test the retaining latch, trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch:
► Remove the activation key.
► Unlock the retaining latch by pushing it forward with your
thumb.
► Hold the retaining latch in the unlocked position.
► Depress the trigger switch lockout and the trigger switch
momentarily.
► Release the retaining latch, trigger switch lockout and
trigger switch.
The retaining latch, trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch should return to their respective locked positions. If
they do not, take the hedge trimmer to an authorized
STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired before use.
If you can depress the trigger switch without first unlocking
the retaining latch and depressing the trigger switch
lockout, take the hedge trimmer to an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer to be repaired before use.
Switch Lever (1)
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal cut injuries to the
operator or bystanders from blade contact, keep hands, feet
and other parts of the body away from the cutting blades. Do
not touch the cutting blades while the activation key is
inserted. Never touch moving cutting blades with your hand
or any part of your body, @ 6.6.2. Keep bystanders out of
the area while testing the controls.
To test the switch lever:
► Insert the activation key.
► Unlock the retaining latch by pushing it forward with your
thumb.
► Hold the retaining latch in the unlocked position.

The cutting blades should not start moving. If they do start

► Hold the hedge trimmer firmly with both hands, your
fingers wrapped tightly around the handles. Now switch on
the hedge trimmer by depressing the trigger switch
lockout, the trigger switch and the switch lever
momentarily. Then release the trigger switch or switch
lever.
If the cutting blades do not stop after you release the
trigger switch or switch lever, remove the activation key
and take the hedge trimmer to an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer to be repaired before use.
15 During Operation
15.1 Using the Hedge Trimmer
WARNING
To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the
moving cutting blades.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury, never work with the
hedge trimmer in the rain or in wet or damp conditions,
@ 6.4. Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection, @ 6.3. Work carefully and
maintain proper control of the hedge trimmer, @ 6.6.2.
The hedge trimmer is designed for two-handed operation.
► Before starting work with the hedge trimmer, remove thick
branches with a hand pruning saw, loppers, chain saw or
other appropriate tool.
