7.3 LED display (red LED)
The red LED as ALARM indicator is part of the smoke detector. It can be seen
through the test button on the cover of the detector. If the red LED flashes once
every 48 seconds, it indicates that the detector is in normal mode. When the
detector senses smoke and simultaneously gives off an audible alarm, then the
red LED flashes once every second.
7.4 Testing the smoke detector
Test the detector once a week by pressing the test button firmly (7.2 Self-test).
These are methods to ensure that the smoke detector is working properly. If the
detector fails and does not work properly, it should be repaired or replaced.
Caution! Never use an open flame to test your detector. This could result in a fire
causing damage to the detector and your home.
The built-in test switch tests all the detector functions. These are the only correct
ways to test the device.
Caution! If you do not test the device and you hear a continuous alarm sound,
it means that the detector has sensed smoke or combustion particles in the
air. Check whether the alarm is a warning of a potentially serious situation that
requires your immediate attention.
The alarm could be caused by unfavourable circumstances. Steam as well as
smoke and soot from the oven can trigger a fault alarm. When this happens, open
a window or fan the air to remove the steam and smoke or soot particles. The
alarm is switched off automatically once the air is completely clean.
Note: Do not disconnect the battery from the detector. This will nullify your fire
safety.
