Please read these instructions carefully and keep for future use. When forwarding this unit to third parties, this
information for use is also to be handed over.

Congratulations for buying the XS-Feeder.
The sera XS-Feeder is a compact and easy to use automatic
feeder allowing food amount adjustment. Feeding takes place
up to twice daily with a time interval of 5 hours. Additional
feeding is possible at any time by pressing the "manual button"
(10). The sera XS-Feeder can feed differently sized granules
for aquarium or terrarium care (young terrapins). The food
delivery opening (12) reliably moves to the side opposite the
water surface every time after feeding. The fine food amount
adjustment also allows feeding fine food in controlled small
amounts. Due to its small size this automatic feeder can be
placed also on small aquariums.

General function description

The XS-Feeder is a battery operated automatic feeder with
integrated timer that allows feeding up to twice daily. The time
between two feedings was deliberately set to 5 hours so both
feedings can always take place during the lighting phase of
the aquarium (with a typical average lighting time of 7 – 8 hours
in aquariums). The food amount can be adjusted in fine steps
by moving the food amount adjustor (5) into the corresponding
position. The food container (3) has a generous volume of
150 ml (5 fl.oz.) and is thus also ideally suited for use on bigger
aquariums with dense fish stock.
Warning!
1. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the appliance. Operation by children
under 8 years is not permitted. The appliance can be
used by children above 8 years as well as by persons
with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities,
or lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the
appliance and have understood the dangers arising
thereof. Children must not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried
out by children unless they are above 8 years old and
under supervision. Keep the appliance and its
accessories out of the reach of children below 8 years
of age.
2. Children must not have access to batteries. Children
can swallow batteries. If the battery compartment
does not close properly any more, do not continue to
use the product and keep it out of the reach of
children. In case a battery was swallowed, medical
help must be searched immediately.
3. ATTENTION: Danger of explosion in case of wrong
battery handling. Replace only with the same or
identical battery type.
4. The XS-Feeder must not be operated with rechargeable
batteries!
5. Batteries must not be exposed to heat. Avoid direct
sunlight and fire!
6. Check batteries regularly as to avoid leaking batteries.
7. The sera XS-Feeder must not be submerged in water,
and the installation location must be protected against
possible water leaks.
8. The appliance must be protected against rain, direct
sunlight or frost. Usage is permitted only indoors.
9. Accessories of the appliance must only be used for
the intended purpose at the automatic feeder. Obey
general rules for handling tools or small parts. This
includes protection of small children as to prevent
small parts such as batteries being swallowed. Always
keep plastic parts out of the reach of children so they
do not become a threat of suffocating.
10. Please remove the batteries first before conducting
maintenance and cleaning measures at the XS-Feeder.
Remove the feeder and lay it aside before conducting
work in the aquarium.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. The battery condition should first be checked before use
after a longer break.
2. It is advisable to insert new batteries before prolonged
absence and after a longer time of operation (in case of
permanent operation).
3. Remove BOTH batteries from the battery compartment
before a longer non-usage period.
4. Always replace both batteries at the same time. Do not
mix old and new batteries.
5. The feeding time is defined by the time of battery
insertion or moving the feeding time adjustor (11), and
therefore must be adjusted anew after every battery
change and accidental movement of the food amount
adjustor. The feeding time should also be adjusted after
a summer/winter time change. The automatic feeder
does not replace a clock!
6. The delivered portion strongly depends on grain size and
evenness of the food. Test feeding before your absence
is therefore necessary.
7. Remove remaining food from the food container before
a longer non-usage period. It is recommended to clean
the food container thoroughly.
8. We recommend using alkaline batteries of good quality
for the XS-Feeder.
9. The XS-Feeder should be placed as far as possible from
the outlet of a water pump or the air outlet of an air
pump.
10. The casing of the appliance must only be opened by
qualified experts.
