Operation
Separating the filter from the mains supply
The corner filter can be switched off by pulling the mains
plug.
Assembly and installation in the aquarium
Step 1: Filling in filter media
The filter is already filled with filter media and immediately
ready for use upon purchase (1).
Step 2: Positioning
The sera X-Edge 300, 450, 700 are exclusively installed in a
corner of the aquarium.
Please note that the filter must be submerged completely in
the water for preventing it from running dry, which would
damage the motor (not a guaranty case!). The best
installation height is usually 2 – 3 cm (0.8 – 1.2 in.) underneath
the water surface (2). This ensures good gas exchange due
to increased surface current and, consequently, optimal
oxygen transfer into the aquarium water.
Press the filled filter with the holder plate attached to it
vertically in the chosen pre-cleaned corner of the aquarium.
The suction cups cannot hold properly when algae or similar
periphyton grow on the glass. In that case possibly use a
blade cleaner for cleaning the installation location first. The
holder plate has 4 suction cups and immediately attaches to
the aquarium glass. If you should wish to install the filter in a
not yet filled aquarium, you should at least moisten the
suction cups so these will attach to the glass. Hold the filter
from below in an inclined position and hook the filter head
with its gap on the back into the holder. Now lean the filter
against the corner of the aquarium until the holder snaps in.
Now the corner stripe touches the silicone joint of the
aquarium (3). Removing and inserting the filter from or into
the holder requires some space and should be considered
when setting up the aquarium.
Step 3: Pushing on the outlet options
Choose the correct outlet type for your aquarium. The spray
bar produces a directed current (4), the duck beak nozzle
rather a soft volume current (5). The air set can only be used
in combination with the duck beak nozzle (13), otherwise the
plug must be pushed into the air intake opening. The spray
bar or the duck beak nozzle are simply pushed into the outlet
opening of the corner filter. Now you can turn the chosen
outlet option into the desired position. Connect the power
supply only when the filter is positioned and installed
correctly. Check whether the achieved effect meets your
desires and possibly readjust the current.
Step 4: Start and adjusting the flow rate
When the filter is submerged it can be switched on by
connecting the mains plug. Turning the adjustment knob (6)
allows adjusting the flow rate accordingly.

Maintenance and cleaning
Cleaning (every 2 weeks)
Switch the sera X-Edge corner filter off by pulling the mains
plug. Grab underneath the filter body and pull the filter
casing upward towards you until the filter is released from
the holder with a click. Now you can separate the filter
casing from the motor part (7) by gentle pressure and take it
out of the aquarium for cleaning.
Remove the front cover with grid from the filter casing. You
can now take the filter mat out of the holder for cleaning or
replacing it (8). Remove the filter basket and the filter sponge
from the filter casing (9) and clean it under running water or,
even better, in a bucket with aquarium water which is being
disposed of anyway after the water change.
The filter mat insert only fits into the front cover with grid in
one direction. Please note the triangle mark on the intake
grid that marks the snap-in location of the little hinge of the
filter mat insert (10).
If you only wish to clean or replace the mat you can remove
the intake grid from the filter body under water and remove
the mat from it (11) after having switched off the filter. Pay
attention to the correct position of the mat insert and the
intake grid during assembly.
Maintenance of the running unit (every 3 months)
Remove the motor chamber cover and take the rotor out of
the motor chamber (12). Rinse rotor and pump head under
running water and re-assemble the parts in reverse order.
