2.3 Obligations of the operator

• The owner must ensure that persons who assemble, operate, disassemble, or
maintain products must not consume any alcohol, drugs, or pharmaceuticals
that may affect their ability to respond.
• The owner must ensure that PPE is used. Observe all specifications for the
overall system.

2.4 Personnel qualifications

Only personnel qualified for the tasks at hand are allowed to perform the activi-
ties described in this documentation. Depending on the activity, this requires ba-
sic knowledge in the following areas and knowledge of the relevant technical
concepts:
• Mechanics
• Pneumatics
• Electrics
The following specific qualifications are additionally required:
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of ATEX products

2.5 Hazards

2.5.1 Danger of explosion due to formation of sparks

Formation of sparks due to mechanical loads
Mechanical loads lead to the formation of sparks and present an explosion haz-
ard.
• Never twist or bend the product and add-on parts, or mount them when they
are under tension.
Formation of sparks due to electrostatic discharging
Pulling out plugs when they are live leads to high differences in potential.
• Never pull out the plug when it is live (explosion protection).

2.5.2 Danger of injury

Danger of injury due to wear or malfunctions of pneumatic systems
Wear or malfunctions can cause components in pneumatic systems to fail and
trigger undesired operating states.
• Take precautions to prevent pressure loss in case of an interruption of the sup-
ply voltage. Suitable precautions are e.g. safety switching valves and/or a re-
dundant supply voltage.

2.5.3 Material damage

Damage due to too high mechanical loads
• Never twist or bend the product and add-on parts, or mount them when they
are under tension.
• Do not use the product as a handle or step.
• Do not position any objects on the product.
Damage caused by electrostatic discharge
Contact between people or objects and electrical product components can cause
electrostatic discharge (ESD), which then damages or destroys the product. Take
the following measures to prevent electrostatic discharge:
• Observe handling instructions and recommendations in accordance with EN
61340-5-1 and 5-2 (material protection).
Damage due to insufficient supply pressure
Setting the set point without applying sufficient pressure to the product will
cause the product to heat up to an impermissibly high temperature and damage
seals.
• Make sure that sufficient pressure is applied to the product before setting the
set point.
• The supply pressure must always be higher than the intended output pres-
sure.
