Power Density and Focus Diameter
The effect on the tissue changes with the power density. The laser power density is calculated
using the laser output per area (laser light spot) and therefore depends on

with working distance, which is selected by the choice of the adapter sleeve.
The focusing handpiece has 2 lenses that focus the laser light emitted by the laser surgical unit
and transferred by the supply fiber. The location of the strongest focus is the focal point, which
is located on at the tip of the adapter sleeve 0.5 mm. The adapter sleeve 0.5 mm therefore
allows working with maximum power density.
As the light beam diverges outside the focal plane, higher beam diameters and lower power
densities are achieved at larger distances from the focusing handpiece.
For this purpose, the adapter sleeves 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm are used. Thanks to the adapter
sleeve and the higher distance, the light beam is created on a larger area.
