General description
The magnetoresisitive sensors (MRS) can be used in machines, systems and vehicles for contact-less
detection, for monitoring and positioning, as a pulse generator for counting tasks and for many other
applications. They are suitable for rotary speed sensing, for detection of gearwheels and for stand-
still control. Areas of use can be heavy construction engines, rail vehicles, large diesel engines and
turbines.
The sensors react to all ferromagnetic materials. The tooth or gap of a gearwheel, when passing the
active area of the sensor, influences the magnetic field. This results in a change of the magnet-field
dependent resistor. This change of the magnetic field is transformed to an electrical voltage-bridge,
which then is filtered and modified to a signal. The output signal is a voltage, which corresponds to the
change in the magnetic field.
Due to the contactless detection, the sensor is not subject to wear on the active surface, they are main-
tenance-free and have a service life that is independent of the switching frequency.
The standard constant ambient temperature permitted is dependent on the model
from -40 up to +125 °C (see data sheet).
The MRS sensors are made of solid material in the area of the active surface, so that protection class
IP 68 is achieved here.
Mounting
For flush mounting
The MRS sensors detect all ferromagnetic materials. The MRS detects the change of the
magnetic flux when the ferromagnetic target passes the active area of the sensor.
Tightening torque
Threaded sensors are supplied with 2 nuts. The following table should be consulted when considering the
maximum torque. For sensors without thread the range of accessories provides suitable mounting blocks.
