WARNING
• Failure to follow the regulations of this mounting instruction may
cause serious consequences such as risk of injury.
• Read and understand these instructions before using wire grips.
• Match the same size wire grip to the same size wire rope.
• Do not mismatch POWERTEX wire grips with other brands.
1. Generally description:
Wire rope grip type POWERTEX is approved for lifting only if assembly
is carried out according to the instruction manual. The wire rope grip are
to be used with 6 and 8 strand steel wire ropes with steel or fibre core
with tensile strength up to 1960 N/mm². Correctly mounted the assem-
bly will withstand 80% of the rope's minimum breaking load (MBL).
Not to be used with compacted, hammered or plastic coated steel wire
ropes. It is not recommended to use plastic covered ropes for lifting
purposes with wire rope grips.
2. Handling
The number of grips needed for a satisfactory assembling, see table
below.

* Minimum number of grips required to fulfill 80% of the rope MBL can
vary, and must be according to local regulations.
Preparatory steps:
Before assembling ensure that the grip is well cleaned thoroughly and
that screws and nuts are greased.
Assembling:
The screws to be tightened after first use.
The eye to have a thimble suitable for the rope dimension and conside-
ring the load of the rope. The grip closest to the thimble to be placed so
that the thimble cannot fall out.
Proof load the application with maximum allowed force.
Joining:
Joining of steel wire ropes using grips normally to be done by two end
attachments connected with an extension link.
Steel wire ropes may not be joined by overlapping and locked with a
grip.

3. Maintenance
The grips are to be further tightened after some time, from a few days
up to 3 weeks, depending on operation intensity.
• Before and after use the mounted grips to be checked in regard to
shifting, deformation and deterioration.
• Check the mounting regularly, at least every 12 months.
Must be inspected at least once a month and must undergo a com-
plete overhaul at least every 12 months. Please note local rules
and regulations must be complied with regards to inspection.
End of use/Disposal
Powertex wire rope grip shall always be sorted / scrapped as general
steel scrap.
Main material is C45/ 40Cr.
The supplier will assist you with the disposal, if required.
