CARBURETOR
ADJUSTMENT
Carburetoradjustment is criticaland if
doneimproperly can permanentlydam-
age the engineas well as the carbure-
tor.tf you requirefurther assistanceor
are unsureaboutperformingthispro-
cedure,call ourcustomerassistance

Old fuel, a dirtyair filter,a dirtyfuel fil-
ter, or flooding may give the impression
of an improperly adjustedcarburetor.
Check theseconditionsbeforeadjust-
ingthe carburetor.
The carburetor has been carefullyset
at the factory. Adjustmentsmay be
necessaryif you noticeany of the fol-
lowingconditions:
• Enginewilt not idle. See =IdleSpeed"
and =Mixture"under adjusting
procedure.
• Enginedies or hesitatesinstead of
accelerating.See =Acceleration
Check"underadjustingprocedure.
o Lossof power.See =Mixture" under
adjustingprocedure.
CARBURETOR
PRESETS
When makingcarburetorpresetadjust-
ments,do not force plasticlimitercape
beyondthe stopsor damage willoccur.
If carburetor presets are not needed,
proceedto =ADJUSTING PROCEDURE,
Idle Speed."
To adjustpresets:
• Turnthe mixturescrewcounterclock-
wise untilit stops.
° Turn the idlespeed screwclockwise
untilit stops. Now turn countemlock-
wise4-1/2turns.
Startmotor,letit runfor 3 minutes,and
proceedto the adjustment section.If
engine does notstart, referto trouble-
shooting chart or call 1-800-235-5878.
If engineperformanceis acceptableat
the presetpositions,no further adjust-
mentsare necessary.

ADJUSTING PROCEDURE
Idle Speed "IDLE"
Allow engineto idle.Adjust speed until
enginerunswithoutstalling.
° Turn clockwiseto increaseengine
speed if enginestalls or dies.
• Turncounterclockwise to decrease
speed.
No furtheradjustments .-
performanceis satisfactory.
Mixture "MIX"
Allowengineto idle. Then accelerate
the engineand note performance.If
enginehesitates,bogsdown, or
smokesduringacceleration,tum mix-
turs screwclockwisein 1/16-tumincre-
ments untilperformanceis satisfactory.
Repeat thisprocedureas necessary
forproperadjustment.After completing
adjustments, checkfor acceleration.
Resetif necessary.
Acceleration Check
If engine diesor hesitatesinsteadof
accelerating, turn mixturescrew coun-
terclockwise untilyou have smoothac-
celeration.Recheck and adjustas nec-
essaryfor acceptableperformance.
Prepareunitfor storageat end of sea-
son or if itwill not be used for 30 days
or more.
WARNING:
• Allowengineto cool, and secure the
unitbefore storingor transporting.
• Store unitand fuel in a well ventilated
area where fuel vaporscannotreach
sparksor open flamesfrom water
heaters,electricmotorsor switches,
furnaces, etc.
