2.4 Calibrating the internal self-checking system

The LRF-04 is equipped with an internal self-checking system that allows you to continually
detect whether the measurement system (sensor) or the hi-fi equipment have been tampered
with. The system also memorises the results obtained during the checking process. Each
LeqT register has this information available in the SLD, SLE and IL parameters (see 4.2).
When the LRF-04 leaves the factory, its self-checking system is deactivated. To activate it,
the system must first be calibrated according to the following steps:
Remove the seal from the program key.
Press the program key. A message will appear on the LCD screen requesting the 4-digit
password. The initial (ex-factory) password is blank. Access is gained by pressing
ENTER (C). Once the password has been confirmed, choose the Calibration option from
the menu.
The calibrating process consists of reproducing a test signal (pink noise) through the
music system. To do this, the LRF-04 is provided with a compact disc (CD) containing an
audio track with the (pink noise) test signal.
Once you have chosen the Calibration option on the LCD screen, the following message
will appear:
While this display appears, the LRF-04 will attenuate 60 dB.
Turn on the hi-fi and make sure it has a CD player.
Set the amplifier volume controls to their normal working position during the session (very
important).
Play the test signal (pink noise at low volume. Until you press the ENTER key you will
hear no sound. When you press ENTER the LRF-04 will begin the calibration process,
ceasing to attenuate
60 dB and allowing you to hear the signal. The following message will appear on the LCD
screen:
Increase the volume of the mixing desk until you reach a sound pressure level of
approximately 80 dBA (watch the indicator on the LCD screen). Once this level has been
reached, press ESCAPE (E). The volume is now the correct one for calibrating. Select
the Calibration option to return to the first message in the calibrating process.
Play the pink noise signal again and press ENTER [C]. The previous message will
reappear.
