4. START-UP AND OPERATIONS
BEFORE STARTING UP
If it is necessary to carry out a pressure test, prior
to first use, to ensure that the pump is functioning
correctly, the following criteria must be met for this
test:
1. Ask a professional to carry out this test.
2. Ensure that all pump and system components are
properly sealed to prevent leakage.
3. Remove trapped air from the system by opening
the manual filter relief valve fully until a steady flow
is seen.
4. Do not allow more than 2.75 bar at a water
temperature not exceeding 38°C.
5. Perform a pressure test for up to 24 hours.
Immediately inspect all parts to ensure that they are
intact and working properly. Fill the strainer housing
with water to the level of the suction pipe. NEVER
OPERATE THE PUMP WITHOUT WATER. Water acts
as a coolant and lubricant for the mechanical seal of
the shaft.
If the pump is pressure tested (2.75 bar MAXIMUM),
ensure that the pressure has been released before
removing the strainer cover.
NEVER run the pump dry. Dry running can damage
the seals, cause leaks or flooding, and void the
warranty. Fill the strainer housing with water before
starting the engine.
Do NOT add chemicals to the pool system through
the prefilter (if equipped) or directly in front of the
pump suction. Adding undiluted chemicals can
damage the pump and will void the warranty.
Before removing the strainer cover :
1. STOP THE PUMP before proceeding.
2. CLOSE the inlet and outlet pipe valves if they are
part of the pump installation.
3. RELEASE ALL PRESSURE from the pump and
piping system using the manual air relief valve filter.
See supplier's manual for details.
PRIMING PUMP :
All suction and discharge valves MUST be OPEN, as
well as the filter air relief valve (if available) on the
filter, when starting the circulation pump system.
Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
• Release all pressure from the filter, pump and
piping system. See supplier's manual for details.
• If the water source is higher than the pump,
which is normal for an above-ground installation,
the pump will prime itself when the suction and
discharge valves are open.
• If the water source is lower than the pump, which is
normal in the case of an underground installation,
unscrew and fix the pump, remove the strainer
cover; fill the strainer housing with water.
• Clean and lubricate the strainer cover O-ring
with a high quality O-ring lubricant each time it is
removed.
• Inspect the O-ring and reinstall it on the strainer
cover if it is damaged.
• Replace the strainer cover on the strainer housing;
turn clockwise to tighten the cover.
• NOTE - Tighten the strainer cover by hand only (no
spanner).
Then turn on the pump and wait for it to prime,
which can take up to five (5) minutes. The priming
time depends on the height and length of the suction
pipe. If the pump does not prime within five minutes,
stop the motor and determine the cause. Make sure
all suction and discharge valves are open when the
pump is running. See the Troubleshooting Guide.
Wait five (5) seconds before restarting the pump.
Failure to do so may result in reverse rotation of the
motor and consequent serious damage to the pump.
Close the manual air release valve of the filter after
priming the pump.
