Introduction
The DVBS2-QAM Twin consists of two independent transmodulator modules
A and B. Each of them receives a satellite transponder (in some of the modu-
lation formats defined in the DVB-S or DVB-S2: standard: QPSK or 8PSK) and
demodulates it, obtaining a transport packet that is subsequently processed,
modulated in QAM format and converted to an output channel (UHF or VHF
and maximum bandwidth of 8.28 MHz).
The Transport Stream processing in each module includes the services elimina-
tion, in the case the satellite input rate is too high to be accommodated in an
output QAM signal. The user can choose the input services that will be distribu-
ted in the output, eliminating the unwanted ones and thus reducing the output
binary rate. This filtering capability also includes each individual component
of a service (audio, subtitle, data) which can be selected to be filtered off on a
PID basis.
Each output service can be assigned a channel number (LCN, Logical Channel
Number), that facilitates the search of the services on the TV set. Each module
allows the substitution of the operator_id field (if it is present in the input) and
it can set the versions of the NIT and SDT tables of the output tables, to limit the
cases in which the TV sets require a new search of channels. Finally, the values of
the transport_stream_id, network_id and original_network_id identifiers as well
as the network name in the output tables can be edited by the user.
Each module provides a fixed QAM output baud rate ("stuffing"), as in many
cases the QAM receivers search the frequency band having as variable a single
symbol rate, for example 6.875 or 6.9 Mbaud. This symbol rate is fixed regard-
less of the bit rate in the input signal.
