Instruction manual
Instruction Manual:
The charger FX 500 charges 2 or 4 rechargeable NiCd /
NiMH batteries of the types:
Micro
AAA
R 03
Mignon
AA
R 6.
Function of LEDs:
LED on:
Charging
LED flashing on and off slowly: Pulsed trickle charge
LED flashing on and off quickly: Deeply discharged
battery is being
reactivated
Attention!
You can charge only rechargeable batteries - no dry bat-
teries - danger of explosion! NiCd- and NiMH-batteries
are marked as such and have the inscription "wiederauf-
ladbar" or "rechargeable".
Application:
The batteries are charged in pairs, i.e. 2 cells have to
be inserted in slots 1+2 and/or in slots 3+4. If only one
battery is inserted the charging process cannot begin.
The battery pairs should be of the same capacity and
similar charge status.
Check the rechargeable batteries are inserted the right
way round (see imprint in the unit +/-). They are auto-
matically charged with the right charging current. After
having inserted the cells in pairs the charger has to be
plugged into the mains supply. Charging process
starts and the LED is on: one LED for slot 1+2, one
LED for slot 3+4.
If batteries in slot 1+2 or 3+4 has reached its full
capacity the charger automatically switches to pulsed
trickle charge by -∆V termination and the LED flashes
on and off slowly. Trickle charging excludes self-
discharge, the batteries can remain in the charger and
are always ready for use. Slots 1+2 and 3+4 are char-
ged and checked separately.
Battery defect / Reactivation of deeply discharged
batteries:
If there is a short circuit within the batteries, i.e. if bat-
teries are old and spent, there is no charging current and
no charging process. The rechargeable batteries are
defect and cannot be charged up, the LED is off.
If deeply discharged batteries are inserted, i.e. bat-
tery voltages are below 1 V per cell, charge will start at a
reduced charging current of 70 - 145 mA and the
LED flashes on and off quickly. The charger tries to
get the battery voltages up to the necessary 1.7 V for 2
AAA cells and 2.1 V for AA cells and then automatically
switches to charging indicated by the LED being on.
If the required voltages are not reached then the bat-
teries are defective and the LED continues to flash-
on and off quickly.
Instruction for use:
It is essential to charge NiCd-/NiMH-batteries before using
them for the first time or after they have been stored for
a longer period. In some cases it may be necessary to carry
out the charging process twice in order to return the bat-
teries to full capacity.
The contact surface of the batteries and of the charger
must always be kept clean.
An authorized dealer is to be contacted at once in case
of any damage.
Protect the unit against oil, grease aggressive detergents
and solvents as unit may be destroyed.
The charger is to be used indoor only.
Following a drop or if mains pins are affected the unit has
to be checked immediately by an authorized dealer.
