Recommended places for installation
- Please place the SD 5Y in the immediate vicinity
of sleeping and children's rooms.
- ttach the alarm system in stair cases, because
stair cases can become chimneys for smoke and fire
easily.
- Make sure to attach at least one smoke detector
per floor.
- Place the SD 5Y in rooms where electrical appliances
are accommodated.
- Smoke and other combustion residues rise towards
the room ceiling and propagate horizontally.
Fix the smoke detector at the ceiling in the centre of
the room. In mobile homes, fix it at the lateral walls
in order to avoid a thermal barrier which may form at
the ceiling.
- When installing the system at the ceiling make sure
to place the smoke detector at a distance of 50 cm
from the lateral wall and 60 cm from each corner.

Unsuitable places of installation
The SD 5Y smoke detector system cannot be used
efficiently under certain situations.
- If smoking in bed.
- If children are unattended in the house.
- If liquids (e. g. gasoline) are used for cleaning.
- In the kitchen: kitchen vapours may release the alarm.
- In the garage: exhaust gases when starting your car
may activate the smoke detector.
- In rooms where the temperature falls below 4.4 °C or
exceeds 37.8 °C.
- In front of heating or air-conditioning systems.
- t the highest point under peaked roofs.
- In rooms with heavily polluted air, high atmospheric
humidity or exhaust fumes, for example in kitchens,
bathrooms, garages, craft rooms: dust and water
vapour particles can cause an immediate or
long-term false alarm.

Installation and mounting

1. Open the smoke detector by cautiously turning the
casing bottom anti-clockwise.
2. Now use the casing bottom with the two drill holes as
a template for ceiling mounting. Mark the two drill
holes by means of the pencil.
3. When drilling in concrete or masonry, please use a
dia. 5.5 mm drill and drill to a depth of approx. 25 - 30
mm. Make sure to fix the dowels in the drill holes,
otherwise look for another position for the smoke
detector or use stronger fixing material which can be
bought in special shops. In case of wooden panels or
beams, drill up to a depth of 20 mm using a dia.
