Functions
The centring instrument is used for determining and aligning the relative position of the outside diameter, inside diameter or centring holes at the workpiece in relation to
the principal axis centre of the machine during machine spindle rotation. The dial gauge can be read with ease during machine spindle rotation by holding or fixing in place
the holding bar.
Various measuring inserts
Straight measuring inserts:
used for inside diameter alignment
Curved measuring inserts:
used for outside diameter alignment
Centric measuring insert:
used for centre hole alignment
Inside diameter alignment
Outside diameter alignment
Preliminary setting and use
1. Fit suitable measuring insert and tighten fastening screw to secure
2. Remove white plastic protective ring
3. Check that the dial gauge with the main body can rotate freely about their rotational axis
4. Mount centring instrument (drive shaft) in collet chuck of machine
5. Fit holding bar
6. Position the workpiece to be aligned in the working range of the centring instrument.
7. Position the holding bar (anti-rotation safety lock) so that the gauge can be read with ease.
Align the measuring insert and tighten the lever clamping screw so that the tilting motion
of the measuring insert is transferred to the lever. Align the rotatable indicator so that the
pointer is exactly at the centre of the indicator whenever contact is made with the workpiece
8. Start machine – make setting with minimum possible speed between 20 and 30 rpm – Attention: Max.
speed: 100 rpm – Manual rotation about the machine axis is also possible if such is permissible in
accordance with the operating instructions for the machine and if the required safety precautions are made.
9. Move the machine table in x-axis direction until the pointer for the indicator approaches its lowest point.
In this way, the workpiece centre has been determined for this axis.
10. Move the machine table in y-axis direction until the pointer for the indicator approaches its lowest point.
In this way, the workpiece centre has been determined for this axis.
Safety-relevant information
Always ensure that the dial gauge and the main body can rotate freely
about their rotational axis prior to use.
Ensure that there is no risk of injury due to the machine, whenever the
centring instrument is held by hand via the holding bar.
It is imperative to not exceed the maximum speed of 100 rpm
General information
Protect the centring instrument against soiling (grease, dust, etc.) to the extent
possible to ensure that the instrument continues to function correctly. Use a
clean, soft cloth for cleaning the friction disc prior to every use. Store the cent-
ring instrument in the supplied box to keep it safe.
