Important: Do not under any circum-
stances use descalers based on formic
acid or vinegar or pure lemon juice, as
these can damage the appliance. Pow-
dered descalers are not recommended.
Use only AEG descaling tablets.
If other descaling agents are used, AEG
accepts no liability for any damage. You
can obtain descaling tablets from spe-
cialist retailers (E-No. 900195537/7) or
from the AEG Service Line.
The descaling process runs over
two phases and should not be inter-
rupted.
Phase 1: descaling phase, and Phase 2:
flushing phase.
In the event of a power failure or
interruption, the program must be
restarted!
Phase 1: Descaling
0 Before starting the descaling program,
switch the coffee machine off.
0 Remove and clean the coffee-making
unit (refer to „Cleaning the Coffee-
making Unit" page 41). The coffee-
making unit is replaced not until after
the descaling.
0 Replace the service cover.
0 Empty the coffee grounds container
and re-insert it.
0 Pour about 400 ml warm water into
the water tank and place a bag (2 des-
caling tablets) in the water tank (Fig.
41).
0 Put the water tank back in place when
the tablets have dissolved. This takes
approximately 5-7 minutes.
0 Switch the appliance on and wait until
it is in the base position.
0 Press the "Descale" key (Fig. 3, e)
around 3 seconds.

During the descaling process, the "Des-
cale" key (Fig. 3, e)
stantly illuminated, and the Coffee
Quantity indicators are illuminated
alternately.
At the end of descaling, the "Fill water
tank" indicator (Fig. 3, k)
0 Rinse the water tank out, fill with a
minimum of 1 litre fresh water and
replace it.
Phase 2: flushing
0 Press the "Descale" key (Fig. 3, e)
The automatic fresh-water flushing
process starts now.
The pump switches off automatically,
after the flushing process to the coffee
grounds container is finished. Then the
indicator of the "Steam Pre-selector"
key (Fig. 3, g)
0 Place a suitable cup or jug with a
capacity of at least 200 ml under the
hot-water nozzle.
0 Turn the Selection dial for steam and
hot water (Fig. 1, D) to the
tion (Fig 42). The indicator of the
"Steam Pre-selector" key (Fig. 3, g)
illuminates.
The pump stops automatically on com-
pletion of the rinsing process. The Cof-
fee Quantity indicators are
extinguished, the indicator of the
"Steam Pre-selector" key (Fig. 3, g)
flashes.
0 Turn the Selection dial for steam and
hot water (Fig. 1, D) back to the
position (Fig. 42).
The flushing process is finished. The
appliance runs to the base position and
then switches off. The "Empty grounds
container" indicator (Fig. 3, j)
flashes for about 1 minute.
0 Empty the coffee grounds container.
0 Thoroughly rinse the water tank, fill
with fresh water and replace it.
0 Before placing the appliance back in
operation, replace the cleaned coffee-

The coffee machine is now ready for
