Thin Client Installation
Refer to the figures and proceed as follows:
Caution Statements:
Improper connection, mounting, or use of this product could result
in component failure or undesired interference. Read the following
caution statements before setting up and operating the thin client.
Setup
•
Do not connect to AC power until all other connections are
made, including the power adapter. Connecting or
disconnecting components or equipment on the back panel
when the thin client is receiving AC power can cause power
surges and damage the device.
•
Do not force a connector into its socket. If any undue resistance
is encountered, ensure that the connector is correctly oriented
to the receptacle.
Orientation and Venting
•
Mount the thin client only as shown in the figures or in
accordance with the instructions provided with the Wyse-
approved vertical mount (see Note below). Improper orientation
(such as component side down, where the back panel's symbols
are upside down) could inhibit the dissipation of heat from the
device and damage it.
•
Allow sufficient space around the thin client for ventilation; do
not place the device in any enclosure that restricts airflow
around the device; do not place any objects on the device.
Product environmental specifications are available in the
product datasheet through Wyse's Web site at:
http://www.wyse.com/products/winterm/index.htm
Power Sources
To ensure regulatory compliance, use only the power supply
included in the shipping carton, or a Wyse-approved equivalent,
with the thin client. Also, the noise suppressor (ferrite bead)
included in the box with the thin client must be installed on the
network cable as described and illustrated here. Refer to the
regulatory notices in the thin client's on-line documentation at:
http://www.wyse.com/products/winterm/reference/3series/index.htm
•
To ensure that the product complies with EN55022B and FCC
Class B requirements, install the ferrite bead on your LAN cable
as shown in the illustration.
•
To prevent accidental loss of power which could damage the
thin client, avoid connecting it to any AC outlet which can be
accidentally switched off or hard resetting the thin client by
holding down the power button.
•
When turning off the thin client, be sure to perform a complete
shutdown (via the user interface or a light press on the power
button). Do not disconnect the AC power cord or shut off power
at a circuit breaker (including power strips), etc., to turn off the
device.
•
Surge protectors for electrical devices are recommended in
areas of lightning. However, when lightning is occurring, your
equipment should be properly shut down and unplugged from
AC power until the storm has passed.
•
Be very careful to not interrupt power while the thin client is
downloading a software update.
Make connections as shown in the figure on page 2.
1. Place the thin client in the vertical position only on a desktop,
or if you want to mount the device (vertically only) such as on
a wall or on the side of a monitor, obtain a mounting kit from
Wyse Technology.
2. Connect the power module to a 100-240V ac, 50-60 Hz
receptacle. Wait until the initialization sequence is completed
(amber light goes off), and then lightly press the power button
on the thin client to turn on power.
Note: Visit
http://www.wyse.com/products/accessories/mounting.htm
information about approved wall-mount accessory kits.
Configure
The logo will appear on the screen,
followed by:
•
The Setup Wizard, if it is the first
time that you have turned on your
thin client.
•
The Winterm Connection Manager
dialog box, if the Setup Wizard has
been completed.
Caution: It is strongly advised that the administrative password
be changed immediately upon configuring the thin client for use.
