HUB4
Getting started
Unpacking
Carefully unpack your HUB4 unit. Then, inspect the unit carefully for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit and
notify the courier immediately if you discover any.
Check the contents of your HUB4 equipment package. If there are any parts missing, incorrect or faulty,
please contact your local distributor or MIDAS support.
Inside this box, you should find the following items:
• HUB4 monitor system hub
• IEC power cable
• Quick Start Guide
Please retain the original packing in case you should need to return the equipment to the manufacturer or supplier,
or transport or ship the unit later.
Installation
Before installing and operating this equipment, make sure it is correctly connected to the protective earth conductor
of the mains voltage supply socket outlet through each mains lead.
Ideally a cool area is preferred, away from power distribution equipment or other potential sources of interference.
Do not install the equipment in places of poor ventilation.
Do not install this equipment in a location subjected to excessive heat, dust or mechanical vibration.
Allow for adequate ventilation around the equipment, making sure that its fans and vents are not obstructed.
Whenever possible, keep the equipment out of direct sunlight.
Power
The internal power supplies are of the switch mode type that automatically senses the incoming mains voltage and
will work where the nominal voltage is in the range 100VAC to 240VAC.
The correct leads for connection in the area to which the unit was shipped are supplied with the unit.
The equipment should only be plugged into the mains outlets using the supplied leads.
Make sure the plug fitted on the supplied mains cable is securely fitted to the mains IEC connector on the unit.
When fitting or removing a plug, always hold the plug itself and never use the cable, as this may damage it.
Never insert or remove an electric plug with wet hands.
HUB4 can power up to four DP48 personal mixers via PoE (Power over Ethernet).
Connecting up
The HUB4 unit uses the following leads and connectors:
AES50 Connections:
Neutrik EtherCON
Primary Analogue Outputs:
Mix – Balanced XLR / ¼" TRS connectors
Power Connection:
Standard IEC cable
HUB4 Controls

(11)
(1) AES50-A / SYNC MASTER EtherCON sockets provide up to 48 bidirectional
channels at 48/44.1 kHz connection to digital consoles, stage boxes, DP48
personal mixers and other compatible AES50-based devices. The AES50
connection can pass audio and control data in both directions via shielded
Cat-5e Ethernet cables. The AES50-A socket also generates digital clock
data for synchronization.
(2) AES50-B / THRU EtherCON socket passes AES50 data through HUB4 to
other compatible devices farther down the signal chain. Each of the AES50
sockets has a pair of red and green LEDs, which indicate the following:
• Green pulsating and red extinguished = valid audio and valid
control data (active link)
• Green extinguished and red illuminated = no clock sync available,
no audio (link has failed)
(3) AES50 PORTS 1-4 can be used to connect up to four DP48 personal
mixers or DL8 digital stage boxes. Remote power is transmitted via PoE
(Power over Ethernet). DP48 can send two stereo mixes, while DL8 sends
8 channels back to PORT 1-4. These signals can be sent to the analogue
outputs for connection to IEM (In Ear Monitoring), to the console via
AES50-A, or these signals can be distributed via StageCONNECT.
(4) PORT 1-4 AES 1-32 button exchanges upstream AES50-A CH 1-32 audio
data with downstream audio data from the AES50 PORTS 1-4 connections.
This button must be pressed and held for 1 second to toggle its
state on or off.
(5) PORT 1-4 TO OUTPUTS If buttons are pressed, digital audio from PORTs
1-4 is routed to analogue outputs and StageCONNECT. If nothing is
selected, analogue outputs and StageCONNECT carry CH33-CH48 from
AES50-A. This button must be pressed and held for 1 second to
toggle its state on or off.

(6) StageCONNECT AES50-A 33-48 exchanges AES50-A upstream with 16
channels from StageCONNECT devices. This button must be pressed
and held for 1 second to toggle its state on or off.
(7) POWER button turns the unit on and off.
(8) VENTILATION GRILLES allow air to move through the unit for cooling.
Make sure the grilles are unobstructed at all times.
(9) POWER connection accepts the included IEC power cable.
USB port for firmware updates.
(10)
StageCONNECT output can transfer up to 32 channels of 24-bit,
(11)
44.1 / 48 kHz audio, control data and phantom power to compatible
devices over any standard XLR microphone or DMX-type cable.
MIX GROUP 1-4 analogue outputs can be used for AES50A CH33-48
(12)
or to send dual stereo mixes from DP48 personal mixers to IEM (In Ear
Monitoring) transmitters for monitoring. Output groups 1 and 2 include
balanced XLR connections.
