Adjustments
Changing the Stylus
Your new EP50-EU Air Engraving Pen comes equipped with a standard stylus. However, a fine
and coarse stylus are available at extra cost. To change the stylus proceed as follows:
1. Carefully grasp the Housing in copper-covered or leather-covered vise jaws, inlet downward.
2. Using a wrench on the flats of the Nosepiece, unscrew and remove the Nosepiece. (Turn
counterclockwise to remove).
3. Remove the Stylus Spring and the Stylus.
4. Install the Stylus Spring onto the new Stylus and insert the Stylus into the Housing.
5. Screw the Nosepiece into the Housing and tighten securely. (Turn clockwise to install).
Grinding the Stylus
1. Insert the Stylus in the stylus grinding collet; then insert the stylus grinding collet into a spin
index (Whirley Gig).
2. Position the Stylus at an angle against the grinding wheel surface.
Note: The grinding angle should be the same as the angle already on the Stylus.
3. Turn the spin index toward the grinding wheel as you are sharpening the Stylus. Grind until
the Stylus is sharp.
4. Remove the Stylus from the stylus grinding collet.
5. Position the Stylus in a lathe and spin.
6. Using a diamond dressing stick, put a radius on the stylus tip.
Important: The stylus tip must have a radius to prevent chipping. Normal radius is 0.008".
