This operation manual contains information on the proper and effective utilization of the AS-i coupling
module ASKM1 in AS Interface Safety at Work. It is included in the scope of delivery.

The AS-i coupling module ASKM1 is designed exclusively for connection to an AS Interface Safety at
Work and may not be used for any other purpose.
Proper use includes, aside from having read and understood this operation manual, knowledge of the
technical description and operating instructions of the configuration and diagnosis software of the
AS-i Safety Monitor ASM1.
Beyond that, the applicable directives and regulations on machine safety in the country of use must
be observed.
The AS-i coupling module ASKM1 enables the connection of electro-mechanical safety devices, such
as 1 or 2 channel emergency stop buttons of safety door locks to an AS Interface. For this purpose,
the 8x4 bit data code table, which is programmed in the coupling module ASKM1, is scanned by the
AS-i master for each AS-i bus cycle and the AS-i safety monitor is checked at the same time. Upon
activation of a safety device the protected machine or system is put into a secured state via the relay
contacts of the AS-i safety monitor.
The AS-i coupling module ASKM1 is certified in accordance with EN 954-1 up to safety class 4 for
applications with an AS Interface Safety at Work.

To be able to set the address, you require the following:
• the programming unit APG-01 (Order No. 50024751)
• the programming cable ASKM1-PK (Order No. 580002)
Valid addresses are 1 to 31. Use each address once only. The coupling module can be re-addressed
up to 15 times. After this, the last valid address is preserved.
After addressing has been completed, re-attach the screw plug to obtain degree of protection IP 67.
