Introduction
The Hobbico Pro Series Accu-Cycle is a digital battery charger/conditioner/analyzer designed for nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and
nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) radio control transmitter, receiver and individual batteries. It can independently charge,
discharge, or cycle receiver and transmitter batteries at the same time. The Accu-Cycle provides valuable information about
the condition of each battery through two easy to read liquid crystal displays (LCD).
The Accu-Cycle uses an internal timer to automatically switch from a constant charge rate over to trickle charge after 15 hours.
The Accu-Cycle automatically terminates discharge when your battery voltage drops to a predetermined value. After
discharge is complete, the Accu-Cycle will automatically switch back to the charge mode, recharging your batteries so they
are ready for use. Your battery's discharge data will remain on the display after discharge is complete for your convenience.
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL PRIOR TO OPERATION.
Cycling Batteries
Cycling is the process of fully charging batteries, then discharging them down to a predetermined cut-off voltage. Cycling NiCd
and NiMH batteries at least once a month can help them achieve their maximum rated capacity and lifespan.
Follow these basic steps to properly cycle your NiCd and NiMH radio batteries:
1.
To remove and evaluate any charge your batteries may have prior to cycling, place them on discharge (see "Discharging
Batteries" for details). After discharge is complete, your batteries will be switched automatically to a 15 hour constant
charge mode.
2.
After constant charge mode ends, again place your batteries on discharge.
3.
After this discharge ends, the complete cycle data for your batteries will be displayed.
4.
Refer to "Evaluating Display Data" to evaluate your battery's ability to hold a charge.
Evaluating Display Data
The DISPLAY switch allows you to view either:
A.
Your battery's elapsed discharge time in minutes (to tenths of minutes), or
B.
The actual battery capacity provided in milliamp-hours (mAh).
Data in Minutes
When you choose the "Minutes" display selection, the Accu-Cycle will show how many minutes it takes to discharge your
batteries. You can use the time data to determine the total minutes of use your batteries can supply under typical applications.
Note: The Accu-Cycle's 250mA discharge rate will most accurately determine the length of time your batteries will power your
radio. This can help you get a "feel" for how your equipment drains power from your batteries.
If you change the DISCHARGE RATE selection while a battery is being discharged, the minutes display will begin to flash.
This will remind you that your timed discharge data will now be a combination of the slow and fast discharge rates. You should
not change the discharge rate during discharge, as this may lead to misleading conclusions about the condition of your battery.
