Overall dimensions
Where installing the detector:
– At a distance of 2-4 metres from the gas appliance (heater, cooker,
etc..)
– In every room where ther is a gas appliance, if possible.
– For more accurate detection, a detector should be instaled on each
floor of a multi-storey building.
– Closed doors or other obstacles can prevent "contact" between the
gas and the detector, and slow down or keep altogether the alarm
from starting. They can also stop people on the other side from hea-
ring the alarm. Therfore a sufficient number of detectors and acoustic
alarms should be installed.
POSITIONING
Methane gas detector
Methane is lighter than air, so it
rises and accumulates at the
highest point of the room. Initially,
the highest concentration of gas
is found next to the ceiling.
Where the ceiling is horizontal
and flat, the detector should be
fitted at a distance of
30 cm
from the ceiling. The detector
should be located above the
level of the highest window or
door opening. In the case of
higher then average or non-horizontal ceilings, the gas company should
be consulted as to the most suitable position for the detector.
INSTALLATION: AREAS TO BE AVOIDED
– Detectors should not be fitted in separate areas or behind doors, parti-
– Detectors should not be fitted in areas where the temperature could fall
– Detectors should not be fitted in small areas where volatile solvent-
– Detectors should not be fitted directly onto gas appliances.
– Detectors should not be fitted over sinks or in particulary humid rooms.
Warning
Air currents caused by fans, or by open windows or doors can prevent
"contact" between gas and the detector.
These situations should therefore be avoided.
