9. Connect the exterior side of the remaining grommet to
the grommet on the lid of the reservoir with a length of
½" tubing.
10. Opti onal: Reduce return fl ow related noise from
reservoir by connecti ng the interior side of the
grommet to a length of ½" tubing long enough to end
just above the bott om of the reservoir.
11. Att ach 6 to 48 buckets with tubing to the outlets near
the bott om of the controller bucket. Note: If an even
number of outlets is left unused, connect them to
each other with a piece of tubing. For a lone outlet
left unused, put a short piece of tubing on it and crimp
it shut, preferably with a zip ti e. An even distributi on
of buckets per outlet decreases fi ll/drain ti me and
increases the system's effi ciency.
12. Measure the buckets' height. Slide the upper fl oat
switches up or down the poles in the controller
bucket so that the stop for the upper fl oat switch is at
least 3 inches below the top of the bucket. A ruler or
measuring tape may be helpful.
13. Plug the system's power cord into a power source.
The green LED on the front right marked "Drain Cycle"
should come on. The ti mer is set to drain by default.
14. Test the system by fi lling the reservoir with regular
water (no nutrients or media). Set the ti mer to the
desired fi ll/drain cycle. To set fi ll ti mes, pull out the
increments – which are 15 minutes each – with a pen
or fi ngernail. Let the system complete one fi ll and
drain cycle for a durati on of 30 minutes.
15. Fill buckets with media up to one inch below the top
of the bucket. We recommend using Hydroton for
its benefi cial aerati on properti es. Be sure to choose
media that won't fl oat or soak. Rinse media in pH
balanced water prior to fi lling the buckets.
16. Place transplants no less than 3" from the top of the
bucket, to allow water to feed the roots.
17. Set drain and fi ll cycles as needed. Larger buckets
require longer fi ll ti mes. Aft er the fi ll cycle, the system
will default back to the drain cycle.
